'Evil Dead Burn' Announced for 2026: A Dark New Chapter in the Franchise

The Evil Dead franchise is set to grow even darker with the announcement of Evil Dead Burn, directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček. Known for his work on Infested, Vaniček confirmed the project’s 2026 release date via Instagram, unveiling the script’s cover page and teasing a vision that promises to push the boundaries of horror.

What We Know About Evil Dead Burn

Co-written by Vaniček and Florent Bernard (the pair also co-wrote Infested), Evil Dead Burn aims to deliver an intense, visceral experience. Speaking to Konbin earlier this year, Vaniček shared his ambitions for the film:

“I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested. I’m going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven’t ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!”

Plot details remain under wraps, but Vaniček’s comments suggest a raw, emotionally charged entry in the Evil Dead universe.

Expanding the Evil Dead Universe

Evil Dead Burn follows the success of 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which brought the franchise into a modern urban setting and is generally well-received for its fresh yet faithful approach to Sam Raimi’s original vision.

In addition to Evil Dead Burn, announced back in April is the untitled Evil Dead project in development from director by Francis Galluppi (The Last Stop in Yuma County). Galluppi’s film, described as an original story, continues the franchise’s trend of exploring unique, standalone tales within the same universe.

Sam Raimi, the creator of the Evil Dead series, who remains involved as an executive producer along with Bruce Campbell, expressed his excitement for Galluppi’s ability to balance tension and explosive violence.

“Francis Galluppi is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence. He is a director that shows uncommon control in his feature debut,” Raimi told Deadline at the time.

The Legacy of Evil Dead

Since its debut in 1981, the Evil Dead franchise has become a cornerstone of horror, blending campy humor with grotesque terror. With Raimi’s blessing, recent entries like Evil Dead Rise have expanded the series’ scope while retaining its signature brutality.

Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn looks poised to continue this legacy, offering a darker, more cathartic take on the horror that has defined the franchise for over four decades.
