Disney Pulls Woke ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’ Episode Following Trump Win

Disney Pulls Woke 'Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur' Episode Following Trump Win

It’s being said that Disney has pulled a woke episode of Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur due to Donald J. Trump winning the 2024 election in a landslide victory over Kamala Harris.

Disney recently canceled the series but has plans to air the second half of Season 2.

In related news, the Oscars have also changed direction following the big Trump win.

“Narrow-minded coach” doesn’t want trans teen on the girls team

The episode in question is said to be about “Brooklyn,” a trans girl playing volleyball on the girl’s team and that the “narrow-minded coach” doesn’t like it and wants Brooklyn barred from the team.

The episode, titled “The Gatekeeper,” also features Brooklyn recalling her time spent playing soccer and “the darkness of me having to play on the boys team.”

So Brooklyn’s comments get overheard by the coach of the other team, Greer, the “narrow-minded coach,” who tries to get the teenager disqualified from the game because Brooklyn is really a boy.

However, Brooklyn’s own coach sticks up for her and tells the other coach, “Brooklyn IS a girl, and she’s gonna play.”

The “narrow-minded coach” is then revealed to be a supervillain who uses a magical key to confine Brooklyn and her teammates in the girl’s locker room.

“Trans is beautiful”

As noted by Polygon, Brooklyn is also voiced by transgender actor Indya Moore, and the character identifies as trans to her friends in the episode.

“I’m trans, my very existence breaks Greer’s rules,” she says to her teammates, before breaking down in tears.

It’s further noted Brooklyn’s trans identity is also highlighted through visual elements, such as her Pride-themed kneepads and a “Trans is beautiful” sticker on her water bottle (pictured above). The episode’s color scheme prominently features colors from the transgender flag, and its exploration of themes like prejudice, exclusion, and finding support from progressive allies is clear.

Screenshots have hit social media from those involved with the episode that offer the reason Disney pulled the episode is because of the recent Trump victory.

“So guess I finally got hit with one of the projects (episode) I worked on is getting shelved because of which party that won the recent election. It breaks my heart knowing this impactful and amazing is now about to be consider a lost media episode,” said Derrick Malik Johnson on Blue Sky:

Polygon also says a source at Disney told them, the decision to pull the episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur  was made more than a year ago and was not based the result of recent U.S. elections:

That source said that “in this case, this decision was based on this specific episode, not because of the character being trans.” They said the episode is not specifically “banned” from airing, but being “held.” It’s unclear if the episode will ever see an official release.
