It’s claimed that Kumail Nanjiani is James Gunn’s choice to play Booster Gold in the DCU.
The rumor actually comes from two sources, Nexus Point News, and scooper Daniel RPK.
Worth a mention is that James Gunn hasn’t directly shot down the claims that Kumail Nanjiani is playing Booster Gold.
What does the rumor say?
Regarding the rumor, Nexus Point News says Kumail Nanjiani has already been cast as Booster Gold, which followed Daniel RPK previously stating the character has been cast for the DCU (via X).
Daniel RPK now adds Kumail Nanjiani is indeed playing Booster Gold and that the TV series is close to getting a showrunner.
According to Nexus Point News, the writers are already in place with Danny McBride, John Carcieri and Jeff Fradley, the creative team behind the HBO Max Original series, The Righteous Gemstones.
Danny McBride is also credited as a writer on The Exorcist: Believer, and he wrote the three recent Halloween movies, as well as Vice Principals and Eastbound & Down.
Kumail Nanjiani played Kingo in Marvel’s Eternals, is known for Silicon Valley, and recently starred in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Gunn was asked about the Booster Gold rumors on social media, particularly that filming will begin in July (Gunn never directly shot down the Kumail Nanjiani rumor), replying, “Although we’re still working on Booster Gold, production isn’t imminent and that story/posting is completely false.”
On July 11, a year before Superman gets released, Kumail Nanjiani also replied to Gunn’s official logo reveal on social media:

What is Booster Gold about?
The Booster Gold TV series was first announced as part of James Gunn’s DCU plans in the original announcement from January 2023. “Booster Gold uses basic technology from the future to pretend to be a superhero in present day,” states the description.
Gunn also described the series: “Next up is a TV series called Booster Gold. Booster Gold is one of comic’s really popular cult heroes. He is a fascinating guy. He’s a loser from the future who uses future technology to come back to present day and become a superhero so that people will love him. It is basically the superhero story of imposter syndrome on an HBO Max series.”
