Evangeline Lilly Done With Marvel: Retiring From Acting

Marvel star Evangeline Lilly says she is done acting, which if course means she won’t be playing Wasp in the foreseeable future.

The actress posted the news on social media, which includes a video of herself from 2006 offering where she wants to be in ten years.

Well, fast forward nearly 20 years and everything she said in the video has come true, which includes retiring from acting.

Stepping away from acting

“Thank you @lost_theothers for digging up this (nearly twenty-year-old) footage of me speaking out my dreams under (what looks like) a full moon. And thank you to @femalepoetssociety for digging up this (much older) footage of the incredible #mayaangelou perfectly articulating how I feel about life,” she posted.

Lilly continued, “I am so filled with joy and contentment today as I live out my vision. Praise God, I feel so grateful for my blessings. Stepping away from what seems like the obvious choice (wealth and fame) can feel scary at times, but stepping into your dharma replaces the fear with fulfillment. I might return to Hollywood one day, but, for now, this is where I belong. A new season has arrived, and I AM READY…and I AM HAPPY.”

What about Wasp?

Last we saw of Evangeline Lilly as Wasp was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania where at the end of the movie they were all battling Kang but ended up making it home.

The film ends with Scott walking the streets of San Francisco brushing off being told about Kang’s death leading to the start of terrible things. The mid-credit scene revealed all the Kangs getting ready to start the Multiversal War.

Quantumania also led into Loki Season 2 with its post-credit scene and it was supposed to lead into Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

However, with Quantumania bombing and with the legal problems surrounding Jonathan Majors, it has been said Marvel is dumping plans for Kang Dynasty and moving in a different direction for Avengers 5.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty “has been reconceived”

Earlier today in The Avengers 5 report, the trades said, “The project was once going to be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, but has been reconceived.”

So we can guess with Evangeline Lilly retiring, there are likely no plans for Wasp in the MCU, or, of course, maybe Marvel will recast the role?

Evangeline Lilly first debuted in the MCU back in 2015’s Ant-Man, starred in the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018, appeared in Avengers: Endgame in 2019, provided the voice of her character in the Disney+ What If…? animated series, appeared in the Avengers: Quantum Encounter Disney cruise theater experience in 2022, and last year in Quantumania.
