Tom Hardy’s reported MobLand exit is getting messier, with new reports claiming the actor’s behavior on Season 2 left producers “spooked” and may have kept “A-list actors” Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and others waiting on set.
The Hollywood Reporter says a source close to production claims Hardy “refused to come out” of his trailer for hours at a time during Season 2, adding that keeping a cast like Brosnan and Mirren waiting was viewed as a major problem.
THR also reports Hardy’s fate on the show has not been officially decided, partly because Paramount+ has not yet renewed MobLand for Season 3.
The report follows earlier claims from Puck News that Hardy was fired from the hit Paramount+ crime series after behind-the-scenes clashes with executive producer Jez Butterworth, 101 Studios, and others.
Puck also reported the Season 3 writers room is already open and writing without Hardy in mind.
Tom Hardy Reportedly Kept MobLand Cast Waiting
According to THR, a source close to production says Hardy’s on-set behavior during Season 2 has “spooked” producers as they consider what to do with MobLand moving forward.
The source claims Hardy refused to come out of his trailer for hours and kept the cast waiting.
The cast is not exactly a group of unknowns.
MobLand stars Hardy as Harry Da Souza, the fixer for the Harrigan crime family. Pierce Brosnan plays Conrad Harrigan, while Helen Mirren plays Maeve Harrigan. The series also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Jasmine Jobson, Mandeep Dhillon, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Janet McTeer, Jordi Mollà, and Toby Jones.
If the report is accurate, it helps explain why producers may be looking at MobLand Season 3 without Hardy.
Hardy is the face of the show, but keeping Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren waiting for hours is not the kind of thing that disappears once cameras stop rolling.
Page Six Points To Hardy’s Past On-Set Clashes
Page Six also picked up on the Hardy drama and connected the MobLand rumors to past claims involving Charlize Theron, Shia LaBeouf, and Patrick Stewart.
The outlet recaps the well-known Mad Max: Fury Road tension between Hardy and Theron, including claims from crew members that Hardy was late to set and that Theron was left furious after waiting for him.
Page Six also cites past comments from Patrick Stewart, who wrote in his memoir that Hardy kept to himself while filming Star Trek: Nemesis and spent downtime in his trailer.
The Page Six report also points to the Lawless rumors involving Shia LaBeouf. LaBeouf has downplayed the story as roughhousing, while director John Hillcoat previously said there was a fight and the two actors had to be restrained.
None of that proves what happened on MobLand, but it does give the latest reports more context.
This is not the first time stories about Hardy being difficult on set have followed one of his projects.
Helen Mirren Rumors Keep Coming Up
Helen Mirren’s name keeps coming up in the MobLand reports.
Page Six cites prior claims from the Daily Mail that Mirren became frustrated with Hardy’s alleged lateness and attitude on set. The report claims Hardy’s behavior annoyed Mirren, who is described as professional and disciplined.
Again, Hardy has not publicly responded to the latest THR claims, and THR says it did not hear back from Hardy’s team when asking for comment.
Despite all the rumors, fans seem to be backing Hardy and don’t think the series will survive without him.
