Aaron Pierre is heading from Lanterns to the big screen.
A new report says Pierre has joined James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow, where he will reprise his role as John Stewart, the Green Lantern hero he is already playing in HBO’s upcoming DC series Lanterns.
The casting marks another major DC crossover under Gunn, with characters now moving between television and film as the new universe continues to take shape.
Aaron Pierre brings John Stewart to Man of Tomorrow
Pierre is already set to play John Stewart in Lanterns, the HBO series focused on the Green Lantern side of the DCU. Now he is also said to be joining Man of Tomorrow, which gives the sequel another major DC hero alongside Superman.
That is a notable move because it shows Gunn is continuing to build the DCU with connected casting across multiple projects instead of keeping the movies and shows separate.
John Stewart is one of DC’s most popular Green Lanterns, so bringing him into Man of Tomorrow adds another big character to the sequel and gives the movie even more of a wider DC Universe feel.
Man of Tomorrow is building a bigger DC roster
David Corenswet is returning as Superman, with Nicholas Hoult also back as Lex Luthor.
The reported story has Superman and Lex teaming up against Brainiac, the technological alien threat. Lars Eidinger is said to be playing Brainiac, one of Superman’s best-known villains.
Other returning cast members include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
The sequel is also said to feature Isabela Merced back as Hawkgirl and María Gabriela de Faría returning as The Engineer.
Adding Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart to that lineup makes it clear Gunn is expanding the sequel well beyond a standard Superman follow-up.
What John Stewart could mean for the sequel
Pierre joining the movie raises a bigger question about how large a role John Stewart will have in Man of Tomorrow.
It could be a supporting appearance meant to further connect Lanterns to the wider DCU.
It could also mean the threat of Brainiac reaches beyond Superman and Metropolis, which would make sense if Gunn wants the sequel to feel bigger in scale than the first movie.
Production set for Atlanta
The report also says Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to begin production in April in Atlanta and continue into the summer.
That lines up with Gunn’s recent social media posts teasing pre-production, including his Daily Planet tech scout and his earlier confirmation that he was in Atlanta getting ready for the film.
If that schedule holds, fans likely will not have to wait much longer before more casting news and official details start rolling out.
Man of Tomorrow gets released on July 9, 2027.
