’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Box Office Massively Bombs

Monday second-weekend update: The second weekend box office has plummeted as expected, with a 71.2% drop, bringing in only $3.6M. The first one brought in nearly $10M for its second weekend. Bone Temple has only brought in $20.7M domestic, and $46M worldwide.

Saturday update: The Bone Temple box office is coming in well under estimates, with only a $5.6 million Friday, including the low $2.1M from Thursday previews.

As a result, weekend opening estimates have been lowered to only a 3-day $13.2M opening and a $15M 4-day, possibly lower. The first one in June opened to $30M, so that’s more than a 50% drop.

Tuesday update: Opening is actually lower with only $13M.

It’s safe to say the 28 Years Later franchise is dead, as over half the fans who saw the first one decided against coming out for the sequel.

Sony should have likely reconsidered a theatrical release and instead went straight to streaming. It will be there shortly.

Box office numbers

While 28 Years Later saw a Thursday preview of $5.8 million back in June, the sequel, The Bone Temple, released this week, only brought in less than half that with $2.1 million.

Likewise, the box office estimates for Bone Temple‘s opening weekend are around $18M for the three-day weekend, while in June, the first one opened with $30M, which fits with the 50% drop.

Maybe Covid is to blame?

Reviews don’t matter

The reviews from the shill critics offer more of the same as the first one, with Bone Temple presently coming in higher at 93%. However, the fan score for 28 Years Later is only at 63%.

I’m guessing the fan score for Bone Temple could come in higher, as it seems only the fans that liked 28 Years Later are coming out for the sequel.

Interestingly enough, Jeff Sneider blasted The Bone Temple on X, saying, it’s “the worst entry in the series by a mile..” Yikes.

Woke bait-and-switch indoctrination

I have zero interest in seeing it myself.

As I went over, 28 Years Later is a woke bait-and-switch indoctrination movie.

The flick starts out really good, about a father-son bonding experience, but switches where the father is a loser, and it becomes a woke feminist movie, with the message that your family sucks, so go get a new one. Apparently, the new family the kid finds are Satanists. That’s the perfect message, right?

The Bone Temple is also from the same director as The Marvels. Yeah, no thanks.
