Zack Snyder Shares Image of Henry Cavill as Clark Kent: ‘This Is My World’

Zack Snyder has shared a new behind-the-scenes image of Henry Cavill from Man of Steel, showing a young Clark Kent before the cape, waiting tables at a bar.

Snyder posted on Instagram: “Everyone’s gotta get a job — even Superman. Before saving the world, Clark Kent was waiting tables.”

The post was also set to “This Is My World” by Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL in the mobile app, the track from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice used during Superman’s final sacrifice.

A Nod to the Bar Scene — and Its Music

The image ties back to the Man of Steel scene where Clark, played by Cavill, works quietly at a bar before being harassed by a group of truckers, culminating in a non-violent resolution and a demolished semi.

Snyder has previously spoken about this moment in the Man of Steel watch party and commentary, revealing that Canadian singer Allison Crowe’s barroom performance in the scene was something deeply personal.

Snyder is a longtime fan of both Crowe and Johnny Cash, and originally wanted her music in Watchmen and Sucker Punch before landing this moment in Man of Steel.

“I’m a big Johnny Cash fan… and I’m a big Allison Crowe fan… so the combination, to me, seemed like an awesome opportunity… if we could make it happen,” he said.

He also explained that the bar fight scene between Cavill’s Clark and Ian Tracey’s character “Ludlow” was designed to show Superman’s restraint, how he takes abuse without retaliation, until his one moment of symbolic justice: trashing the truck offscreen.

A Scene About Quiet Power

Snyder described the sequence as a reflection of controlled fury and humility. Cavill had to endure beer poured on him and a can thrown at him in the scene, with Snyder noting, “It’s not easy being Superman all the time.”

Ludlow’s comeuppance comes in the form of a massive jackknifed semi left in ruins outside the bar, a nod to Clark’s quiet strength and his ability to choose when to act.

“Everything that you’ve felt like saying and doing to people in the past throughout your life… when you control yourself, you can ball it up into one little moment of fury and sarcasm,” said Snyder.

More SnyderVerse Nostalgia

This post is the latest in a streak of DCEU-era images Zack Snyder has been dropping, including Superman, Zod, Cyborg, Knightmare Batman, and now Clark Kent as a pre-heroic everyman.

As talk of the SnyderVerse possibly returning amid Warner Bros. Discovery sale speculation heats up, fans continue to look for meaning in every post.
