Valerie Perrine, known to Superman fans as the original Eve Teschmacher in Richard Donner’s Superman movies, has died at 82.
Perrine’s death was confirmed Monday, with multiple reports noting she had been living with Parkinson’s disease after being diagnosed in 2015.
James Gunn Pays Tribute To The Original Eve Teschmacher
Following news of Perrine’s death, Superman director James Gunn posted a tribute on social media: “Rest in Peace to the original Eve Teschmacher, Valerie Perrine.”
Gunn shared the message as fans remembered Perrine’s role opposite Gene Hackman’s Lex Luthor in the Christopher Reeve-era films.
Sara Sampaio Also Reacts
Gunn has recast Eve Teschmacher in his new Superman movie, with Sara Sampaio taking over the role.
Sampaio also reacted on her Instagram Story, writing, “Sad to hear that Valerie Perrine passed away! The OG Eve! She was such an inspiration and an icon. Rest in peace Miss Teschmacher.”

Valerie Perrine’s Eve Teschmacher Remains A Superman Favorite
Perrine played Eve Teschmacher in Superman in 1978 and returned for Superman II, becoming one of the standout supporting characters from the Donner and Reeve era.
For a lot of fans, she will always be tied to those original films and to the early big-screen version of DC’s universe. Outside Superman, Perrine was also known for Lenny, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
Her official Instagram shared that Valerie Perrine died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, praising her courage, compassion, and the way she lived life without complaint. The post also asked fans to help support funeral expenses through a GoFundMe so her final wish of being laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery can be honored.
