Agents Of SHIELD Spinoff In Development

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19970:]]

It’s learned that apparently Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD is doing well enough warrant a spinoff, which more than likely also means a third season is a given.

EW.com reports Marvel is quietly developing the spinoff for ABC which is being developed by Agents Of SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell and SHIELD writer Paul Zbyszewski (LostHawaii Five-0).

It’s said there won’t be a straight-up episode that will create the spinoff (similar to what WB did with Arrow and The Flash), but that this season will have story elements, that are still to come, that will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series.

It’s assumed, by the end of the season, the details on the spinoff will be made more clear.

It’s further stated the SHIELD spinoff isn’t guaranteed, as ABC hasn’t even announced a third season for SHIELD, but it’s suggested the spinoff could debut next Fall or mid-season.

Regarding Agent Carter‘s return, the report mentions there is a “60 percent” chance of the series returning.

Lionsgate Launching Streaming Service For Comic-Con Fans

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19969:]]

Lionsgate is teaming with Comic-Con International to create a Netflix-like digital subscription video-on-demand streaming service to be launched later this year.

The new service is being described as a year-round online experience for long time fans and emerging audiences worldwide that will launch with a broad portfolio of content including original short-form content created exclusively for the channel’s subscribers, films and television series from Lionsgate and other studios designed to appeal to the diverse interests of Comic-Con’s fan base as well as exclusive archived footage from Comic-Con’s 45-year history.  As part of the new channel, the two companies will also work closely to make the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI-IFF) a 365-day-a-year online event.

Last year 17 of the top 20 North American box office blockbusters had a presence at the Comic-Con Convention along with iconic television series such as The Walking Dead and American Horror Story.  Comic-Con International has grown from 300 attendees in the basement of San Diego’s U.S. Grant Hotel in 1970 to well over 130,000 fans from around the world last year, marking its evolution into a staple of popular culture and the longest-running comics and popular arts convention in America.  Badges for this year’s Comic-Con sold out in 60 minutes.

“We’re thrilled that the biggest pop culture event of the year will become a year-round digital channel for Comic-Con fans and audiences around the world,” said Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television & Digital Distribution Jim Packer. “The fan base for the kind of films and television series showcased at Comic-Con has grown exponentially, and a subscription video-on-demand service is the ideal platform to capture the magic and excitement of the Comic-Con experience year-round as well as the perfect vehicle for Comic-Con fans to discover new content.”

Reflecting the tremendous interest in the diverse roster of comics, films and television series showcased at Comic-Con International each year, the two companies plan to roll out the new service beginning with the U.S. later this year.

“From the beginning of our discussions, nearly two years ago, we have been extremely impressed with Lionsgate’s embracing and understanding of fan culture,” said Comic-Con’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations David Glanzer. “Working with our Lionsgate partners has been an exciting exercise in finding great ways to expand our horizons to deliver the unique magic of Comic-Con and the celebration of comics and popular art to our fans 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and around the world.”

“As a next generation studio, Lionsgate has grown up with Comic-Con, and their fans are our audiences,” said Lionsgate President of Interactive Ventures & Games Peter Levin. “We’re excited by the opportunity to expand and enrich the world of Comic-Con for existing fans and extend it to a whole new global audience with a channel distinguished by its imaginative curation, depth and diversity of content and fierce loyalty to the Comic-Con brand.”

Originally showcasing comic books, film and fantasy literature, Comic-Con has grown to also encompass science fiction, horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectibles, video games, interactive multimedia, webcomics, fantasy novels and other aspects of pop culture. In addition to San Diego Comic-Con International, the new subscription video-on-demand service will also have exclusive access to the archives of sister convention WonderCon.

The new Comic-Con International channel is the third streaming service to be launched or announced by Lionsgate as the Company continues to build its suite of online platforms to deliver content directly to consumers. Lionsgate also recently launched the Lionsgate Entertainment World platform with the Alibaba Group in China and has announced the planned launch this summer of Tribeca Shortlist, a subscription video-on-demand service for film aficionados in partnership with Tribeca Enterprises.

Fans may visit http://comic-con.org/ondemand to become the first to learn details about the new service.

SyFy Greenlights Matt Damom & Ben Affleck’s “Incorporated”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19940:]]

Syfy announced it has greenlit to pilot Incorporated, a futuristic espionage thriller from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Pearl Street Productions, CBS Television Studios and Universal Cable Productions.

Set in a future where companies have unlimited power, Incorporated tells the story of executive Ben Larson, forced to change his identity in order to infiltrate a cut-throat corporate world, to save the woman he loves. In the process, he will take on the entire system – with deadly consequences.

Created by David and Alex Pastor (Selfless, The Last Days), who wrote and will direct the pilot, the dystopian future of the show reflects contemporary trends: the growing influence of corporations and private interests in Washington, the slow but steady dismantling of the public sector, and the increase of an amazing amount of wealth by an ever shrinking minority. Incorporated will explore these issues via suspense, action, complex characters and a dark sense of humor, plunging viewers into a future world where the ethical boundaries that we know have been completely redrawn.

Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife) will serve as executive producer/showrunner, with Damon, Affleck and Jennifer Todd also executive producing. Pearl Street Film’s Margaret Chernin will serve as associate producer.

“Syfy is working with the best talent in the business to develop the most provocative and smart science fiction programming, and we are delighted to be partnering with Matt, Ben and Jennifer, along with the creative minds of the Pastor brothers and Ted on this pilot,” said Dave Howe, President, Syfy. “Incorporated is an electrifying example of what science fiction does best: holding a mirror to present realities and projecting forward to a recognizable future in which we face the impact and consequences of our actions.”

Said Damon and Affleck: “Incorporated provides us distinct insight into a world dictated by our decisions today. Viewers will delve into the intricacies of our future, one that we are constantly warned of, but as a society have not yet explored. We believe this is an important and timely story to tell and can think of no one better to guide us into this than David, Alex and Ted.”

More Doctor Who For At Least 5 Years

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19929:]]

Good news for fans of Doctor Who as the series will be on to at least 2020.

Speaking on the long-term plans for the series, Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat told the Radio Times, “I thought it would last ten years. I didn’t think it would last ten years with BBC Worldwide trying to get me in a room to talk about their plan for the next five years!”

The new Doctor Who series debuted back in 2005 and continues to be a major draw for the BBC, with last season averaging about 2.3 million viewers an episode.

“It’s going to do a minimum of 15 [years]. I mean, it could do 26! That’s not to say its easy. Ten years on, our ratings are pretty much the same,” Moffat told Doctor Who magazine. “Actually, internationally, bigger. No show does that! You’re meant to go down! Doctor Who just stays. It’s extraordinary!”

Moffat did say the BBC expected Doctor Who to lose ratings as the show progressed through the year as it’s “not easy finding new Doctors” and “there’s nothing easy about doing Doctor Who,” – however, just the opposite happened.

“Because it’s such an amazing format, because you can constantly revive it and re-imagine it, then as long as the people looking after it are passionate about it and the BBC is passionate about it, there’s absolutely no reason why it can’t do another 50 years,” Moffat said.

Series 9 of Doctor Who is expected to debut in the Fall and is currently filming in Cardiff, Wales. Game Of ThronesMaisie Williams was recently announced as a special guest star.

George R.R. Martin Developing Captain Cosmos For HBO

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19914:]]

Game Of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin recently discussed finishing the sixth book by 2016 where he mentioned a new project with HBO.

Martin told EW.com that he is developing a new series called Captain Cosmos, which is described as: “At the dawn of the age of TV in 1949, a visionary young writer creates a science fiction series that tells stories no one else will dare to tell.” The pilot is being written by Michael Cassutt (Z Nation).

Regarding the new Game of Thrones book, Martin offered a big surprise is in store for a regular character.

“This is going to drive your readers crazy,” he teases, “but I love it. I’m still weighing whether to go that direction or not. It’s a great twist. It’s easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations. Otherwise, it’s just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen. And with the various three, four characters involved… it all makes sense. But it’s nothing I’ve ever thought of before. And it’s nothing they can do in the show, because the show has already—on this particular character—made a couple decisions that will preclude it, where in my case I have not made those decisions.”

Game Of Thrones returns to HBO with Season 5 on Sunday, April 12th.
