26-Episode Animated Mega Man Series Announced

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20840:]]

Dentsu Entertainment USA has partnered with Man of Action Entertainment to develop a 26-episode animated series based on Capcom’s iconic video game franchise Mega Man for the global market, it was announced today by Yuichi Kinoshita, President and Chief Executive Officer, Dentsu Entertainment USA, Inc.  Under terms of the deal, Dentsu Entertainment holds worldwide broadcast and licensing rights for all aspects of the new Mega Man TV series.

Dentsu handpicked Man Of Action Entertainment, creators of Ben 10 and Generator Rex, to create, write and executive produce the all-new Mega Man animated series. Disney/Marvel’s Academy Award-winning feature Big Hero 6 utilized the characters and team created by Man of Action, the bi-coastal creative studio and writers’ collective formed by creators and acclaimed comic book writers Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau and Steven T. Seagle.  Marvel called upon Man of Action to produce and write Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Avengers Assemble for their successful launches on Disney XD.  The new Mega Man series has a target air date of 2017, coinciding with the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to introduce an all-new Mega Man to loyal fans and kids,” said Kinoshita, commenting on the deal.  “Having a celebrated character from Japan reimagined by Man Of Action is the ideal project for Dentsu Entertainment USA.”

Man of Action’s Rouleau said, “The 1990s Mega Man TV series was cool and different than other series targeted at kids during that time.  It featured great action, but also brought the laughs.  Mega Man is a character that is even more relevant for today’s kids and we are really looking forward to creating something new that still respects the long tradition of the character.”

The Mega Man franchise is grounded in a series of video games, first launched in 1987, featuring battles fought by the eponymous blue robot protagonist and an ongoing cast of allies and enemies.  The Mega Man multiverse has spawned over 130 video games on multiple gaming systems, selling over 30 million copies worldwide, as well as a plethora of toys, comics and collectibles.  A highly-rated Mega Man TV series was popular in the USA in the 1990s and aired for several seasons.

Watch: Game Of Thrones Epic “Hardhome” White Walker Battle

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20822:]]

Sunday’s episode of Game Of Thrones saw an epic battle take place between the army of the White Walkers and the free men of the North in addition to Jon Snow and his Crows.

The episode was the best of the season to date (finally), with the battle lasting almost twenty minutes long.

Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow, told Huff Post the scene took two weeks to film with the cast and crew “cold and wet” as they “painstakingly filmed the scene amid terrible conditions.”

“All the money on ‘Thrones’ is spent on the actual sequence or finishing the thing. None of it’s spent on the actors’ luxury. So we had this tiny cast tent with a river running through it, which is fine,” Harington said. “You just muck in with ‘Thrones.’ It was great.

“The really amazing bits were the bits where you said, ‘Okay, now this giant is going to burst out of the hut, and then all these undead are going to fall off the cliff,’ and those are the bits you obviously can’t see. So you kind of really geek out about that stuff, and then getting to watch it afterward is really, really amazing,” he said.

Stephen Amell Rumored To Be Wrestling At WWE’s SummerSlam 2015

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20804:]]

While WWE’s Sting (6’3″ 250lbs) may be just a bit outside of Stephen Amell’s range, that doesn’t mean the Arrow will be sitting in the stands come SummerSlam.

Stephen Amell is rumored to be appearing at WWE’s big SummerSlam event on August 23rd at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY.

His opponent?

Stardust Cody Rhodes!

Recently on RAW, Amell and Rhodes (listed at 6’1 216 lbs) exchanged words, which continued on their social networks and WWE.

Rhodes got in Amell’s face on RAW, with Amell telling Stardust to tread carefeully or he’ll back back. Stardust then followed up on WWE.com calling out Amell.

Stephen Amell has been pretty vocal about how he is a big of a fan of wrestling, and that he wouldn’t mind guest hosting – or even suiting up for the squared circle.

The gossip site Hollywood Life is now saying Amell will duke it out with Rhodes during SummerSlam – and get this – that Amell may even don his Arrow persona while doing so.

Obviously, it could be just a big rumor, but it’s not unheard of for celebrities to participate in various WWE matches and shows. Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken on Triple H, and Shaq, Floyd Mayweather Jr., Snoop Dogg, Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Springer, Flavor Flav, Mike Tyson and others have all be a part of events.

Update: Both Stephen Amell and Cody Rhodes respond to rumor. See tweets below.

Neil Gaiman Comments On One Million Moms Boycott Of Lucifer TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20471:]]

WB, DC and Fox are launching the new Lucifer TV series next year.

Now with the recent release of the trailer and synopsis, a controversy has ensued.

As the show is about Lucifer potentially being a good guy, “One Million Moms” have stepped in to start a petition to get Fox to cancel the show.

The petition presently has just over 11,000 signatures.

Now the petition has caught the eye of Neil Gaiman, who is known for writing Sandman where the Lucifer character debuted. Gaiman offers “One Million Moms” had similar issues with Sandman, but obviously that didn’t work out.

Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting SANDMAN because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans Woman in a comic book… They told us they were organising a boycott of SANDMAN, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform.

I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time, either…

Regarding Lucifer, from the synopsis below, it seems as if the Lord of Hell may be seeking redemption. It’s assumed “One Million Moms” must not believe in forgiveness?

Lucifer premiers on Fox in 2016.

Synopsis:

The Devil has come to Los Angeles…

Based upon the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Entertainment’s Vertigo imprint, LUCIFER is the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR (Tom Ellis, “Merlin”) has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A., where he owns Lux, an upscale nightclub.

Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, Lucifer is enjoying his retirement, indulging in a few of his favorite things – wine, women and song – when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of Lux. For the first time in roughly 10 billion years, he feels something awaken deep within him as a result of this murder. Compassion? Sympathy? The very thought disturbs him – as well as his best friend and confidante, MAZIKEEN aka MAZE (Lesley-Ann Brandt, “The Librarians”), a fierce demon in the form of a beautiful young woman.

The murder attracts the attention of LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DANCER (Lauren German, “Chicago Fire”), who initially is dismissive of Lucifer. But she becomes intrigued by his talent for drawing out people’s secrets and his desire to dispense justice, doling out punishment to those who deserve it. As they work together to solve the pop star’s murder, Lucifer is struck by Chloe’s inherent goodness. Accustomed to dealing with the absolute worst of humanity, Lucifer is intrigued by Chloe’s apparent purity and begins to wonder if there’s hope for his own soul yet.

At the same time, God’s emissary, the angel AMENADIEL (DB Woodside, “Suits,” “24”), has been sent to Los Angeles to convince Lucifer to return to the underworld…can the Devil incarnate be tempted toward the side of Good, or will his original calling pull him back toward Evil?

THUG SCENE

Elektra: Easy. No moving. No talking. Right now we play a game called, “This is not a conversation.” Sit on the bed.

Thug: Please, my pills, can I get them?

Elektra: The .38’s gone. So is the knife you stashed under the pillow. Anything else I should know about?

Thug: I’m getting on a plane just like you said. Tickets on the counter.

Elektra: I saw, window seat and everything.

Thug: I told you before, you and your partner, it was a long time ago but…

Elektra: (makes a threatening move with weapon)

Thug: I’m sorry. I’m doing everything you told me to do. I’m leaving behind my whole operation.

Elektra: And when you get to wherever you’re going on, I assume you set up shop doing the same sh*t you did here.

Thug: No.

Elektra: Hurting innocent people all because you’re too lazy to get rich the hard way.

Thug: What the hell do you want from me?

Elektra: My partner was a good kid and became a hell of a grown up. But he had goodness in him, once upon a time. The way he tells it, he comes home one night and heard a blow dryer in the bathroom. Dinner’s on the table. He waits a second, but he’s starving – he’s eats alone. Assumes she’ll be out any minute – she’ll be mad, but she’ll understand. Always does. He’s a good son. He goes to find her, blow dryer still on and there she is – brains on the god damn mirror!

Thug: Your partner, that woman was his mother? And he doesn’t even know you’re here, does he?

Elektra: Sometimes it is better off not knowing.

Thug: I’m old man, I don’t have much time. I’ll give you everything.

Elektra: There is no version of this where you walk out that door.

Thug: Please, lady.

Elektra: Call me that again and I’ll cut your tongue out.

Thug: You promised you wouldn’t kill me.

Elektra: He said he wouldn’t kill you, but me, I never had goodness in me. (slow stabbing motion)

POSSIBLE FLASHBACK SCENE:

Elektra: Nice shoes, wingtips, good call. Tie them yourself?

Matt Murdock: How did you know?

Elektra: You don’t look like a tough read.

Matt Murdock: You never know I could surprise you.

Elektra: Doubt it.

Matt Murdock: Give it a try.

Elektra: Okay, you drink Macallan because you’re afraid beer would give you a frat boy vibe. You’ve never been inside a fraternity house. You weren’t even a boy scout. There is no club you would join because it would choke the air from your lungs. You’d suffocate. Shall I go on?

Matt Murdock: Please do.

Elektra: Now you think we’re flirting. Your mind’s racing. You’re wondering what piece of wit you can think of next. Know what your problem is? You’re pretty, but dumb. Too dumb to know the game is already over and you lost before you stepped to the plate.

Matt Murdock: You got that all from a pair of wingtips?

Elektra: Quick study.

Matt Murdock: You know what I think?

Elektra: Tell me.

Matt Murdock: You’re bored. Bored of the parties, the faculties, all of it.

Elektra: And I need just the right bad boy to take me away from all this. Is that it?

Matt Murdock: Basically.

Elektra: Know something, you’re right. (takes drink and drinks it) Let’s go.

Big Things Were Planned For Harley Quinn In Arrow

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20726:]]

What could have been…

Season 2 of Arrow featured a cameo by Harley Quinn played by Cassidy Alexa, with the deleted scene (watch below) featuring Tara Strong’s voice as well.

Now while appearing at the MCM London Comic-Con this weekend, Willa Holland, who plays Thea Queen, let it be known big things were planned for Harley Quinn in Arrow.

“We had big plans for Harley,” Willa Holland revealed, reports Flickering Myth. “But, I guess something came down from DC execs that told us to shut it down. I mean we had that tease with the pigtails and the ARGUS outfit but, we’ll never see it. We would love to [have] Harley in Arrow but it will never happen.”

Obviously, what came down was Harley Quinn being a member of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie, which is what happened with Arrow‘s version of Deadshot as well. Arrow EP Marc Guggenheim revealed a couple of months ago that Deadshot was off the table.

That’s not the only character the WB execs axed – originally, Brandon Routh’s Atom was going to be Blue Beetle, but WB said no to using Blue Beetle and suggested Atom.

It will be interesting to see what happens when The Flash movie gets going.

Supergirl Pilot Easter Eggs & Spoilers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20701:]]

Earlier this morning saw word the Supergirl TV series pilot leaked online, and now details including Easter Eggs and spoilers have hit the net.

Spoiler Warning.

A lot was obviously revealed in the six minute extended trailer (watch below) with the pilot expanding upon the footage.

Kara’s leaves Krypton at the same time as Kal-El, with her mission being to protect her baby cousin. Her pod is directly connected to Kal-El’s and the coordinates to Earth; however, as Krypton explodes, Kara’s pod is sent to the Phantom Zone.

Kara than wakes up Earth not knowing how she got there. Her cousin (never referred to as “Superman” in the episode) finds her and takes her to the Danvers (Dean Cain and Helen Slater play her adoptive Earth parents).

Kara works for Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) at Catco in National City where she is Cat’s assistant. Winslow ‘Winn’ Schott (Jeremy Jordan) and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) are introduced. It’s noted “The Big Guy” still refers to James as “Jimmy Olsen.” Schott, aka Toyman in the DC Comics, is the tech guy and has a crush on Kara.

Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) is Kara’s Earth sister. She’s off to Geneva when her plane suffers a malfunction – that’s when Kara reveals her powers for the first time. Alex isn’t happy that Kara used her powers and tells her not to do it again.

Kara needs to tell someone – to share in her good feelings – so she reveals herself to Winn on the rooftop.

The villain of the episode is introduced, which is Vartox (Owain Yeoman). He is responsible for sabotaging the plane and tells another alien, The Commander (Faran Tahir), that a girl stopped the explosion. Vartox puts it together that since Jor-El saved his son, Alura saved her own daughter. It’s then mentioned they have been hiding for too long, and that the “General’s arrival is imminent.” Vartox mission is to eliminate the human operatives, and now Kara has been added to the list.

Kara gets her Supergirl suit and goes on a few missions to save the day. A fire breaks out on top of a building, and when she investigates, she gets shot down by green-colored darts. Kara wakes up on a gurney where Hank Henshaw is introduced (David Harewood). Henshaw is the director of the DEO – Department Of Extranormal Operations. Her sister Alex is an Agent. The green darts were kryptonite. The DEO protects Earth from aliens and alien invasions.

Henshaw explains when Kara’s pod crashed, something else followed her from the Phantom Zone – Fort Rozz, a Kryptonian maximum security prison for aliens, and that the alien convicts have escaped on Earth and are the most dangerous in the galaxy. Henshaw is reluctant to have Kara join them, and off Kara goes.

Back at Catco, James Olsen tells Kara he knows about her, that her cousin sent him to watch out for her, that the first thing her cousin did was save a plane, too. Kara then gets a message from Vartox that only she can hear. Supergirl heads to a power plant on the outside of town where the two battle. Vartox wields some sort of axe made of strange metal (possibly Nth metal?) that can cut Supergirl. The DEO intervenes, and Vartox jumps/almost flies away. Back at the DEO base, they take a piece of metal out of Kara’s shoulder and analyze it.

Back at her apartment, Kara has words with her sister about Alex being an agent of the DEO. Some drama ensues with Alex eventually giving her a container from her pod ship which contains a hologram of her mother, Alura. Alex says to suit up and back to the DEO they go. They convince Henshaw to let Kara help, and then they locate Vartox through use of the axe metal shard energy signature.

Supergirl flies off and battles Vartox. Alex was able to analyze the metal: If it gets superheated, it will explode. Supergirl uses her heat vision, destroying it, which explodes causing Vartox to lose the battle. Vartox takes a piece of the metal and kills himself, but not before telling Kara that she has no idea what’s coming.

Next, Kara talks with James Olsen on the roof where he gives Kara her cousin’s cape. Her cousin is really proud and wanted her to make the decision to be the hero herself, like he did.

Finally – the main Supergirl series villain stands revealed.

Some sort of ship/control room is shown with a woman in black. She’s the General and notes Kara is her niece! It’s Alura’s sister! Actually, it’s Alura’s twin sister as she, too, is played by Laura Benanti! Alura’s sister mentions how she will rule Earth just like how she was supposed to rule Krypton. No one will stand in her way. Supergirl is as much of a threat as her cousin, because she is like Alura, etc.

Alura’s sister then orders Supergirl to be killed, and that no one will stand in her way.

Other info:

The Vartox/aliens want/wanted revenge on Supergirl because Alura was the judge who sent them to the Fort Rozz prison and Phantom Zone.

Winn mentions “Super Friends.”

Kara’s cousin is referred to as the “Man of Steel.”

Alex is a bioengineer and was recruited to the DEO because she lived with Supergirl.

Supergirl has super-hearing, x-ray vision, susceptible to kryptnonite, and can’t see through lead.

It’s possible Alura’s twin sister might be a version of Ursa from the comics?

(hat tip to “Superman is not human” for sending in the info)

Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Marvel & George Romero’s Empire Of The Dead Announced As TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20683:]]

With The Walking Dead having two series and Z-Nation on SyFy, you knew it wouldn’t be long before zombie godfather George Romero got his own flesh-eating series.

Variety has announced that Romero’s Empire of the Dead graphic novel is being adapted for TV.

Romero published the comic through Marvel Comics; however, it isn’t a part of the regular Marvel Universe, so don’t expect the Marvel Zombies to show up.

Demarest Films is behind the project, with it noted the production company recently backed Kevin Smith’s Tusk, and announced the news today at the Cannes Festival in France.

The Empire of the Dead TV series will be written by Geroge Romero and longtime partner Peter Grunwald, and executive produced by Romero and Grunwald with Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson.

Romero is, of course, known for the Night of the Living Dead zombie movies.

Marvel Comics published the first Empire of the Dead comic back in January of 2014, described as:

Welcome to New York City years after the undead plague has erupted—but just because Manhattan has been quarantined, don’t think that everyone inside is safe! Not only do flesh-eaters roam within Manhattan, but there’s another ancient predator about to take a bite out of the Big Apple!

The ancient predator referred to are blood-suckers, so the series features both vamprires and zombies.

A network has yet to pick up the series.
