Locke & Key TV Series Still A Possibility Says Joe Hill

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22337:]]

It’s learned a potential TV series adaptation for Joe Hill’s Locke & Key comic book is still a possibility.

BrokeHorrorFan.com caught up with Stephen King’s son at a signing over this past weekend where Hill let it be known the planned movie that was announced at the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con is no longer happening, but Hill did offer Locke & Key might see the light of day on TV.

Locke  & Key was close to becoming a TV series as a pilot was filmed and aired for Comic-Con fans back in 2011, but various studios ended up passing on the project.

Joe Hill now says with IDW Publishing having their own TV divsion, that Locke & Key may ultimately end up on TV.

The USA network recently picked up IDW’s Brooklyn Animal Control, which has David Goyer involved, and SyFy has is adapting the Wynonna Earp IDW series for TV

Here is the description from Amazon for the Vol 1 of Locke & Key:

Novelist Hill, author of Heart-Shaped Box, crafts a gripping account of the shattered Locke family’s attempt to rebuild after the father/husband is murdered by a deranged high school student and the family subsequently moving in with the deceased father’s brother at the family homestead in Maine. But as anyone who has read horror fiction in the past 70-odd years will tell you, it’s a bad idea to try to leave behind the gruesome goings-on in your life by moving to an island named Lovecraft. What begins as a study in coping with grief soon veers into creepy territory as the youngest Locke discovers a doorway with decidedly spectral qualities, along with a well that houses someone or something that desperately wants out and will use any means available to gain freedom, including summoning the teenage murderer who set events in motion in the first place. To say more would give away many of the surprises the creative team provides, but this first of hopefully several volumes delivers on all counts, boasting a solid story bolstered by exceptional work from Chilean artist Rodriguez (Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show) that resembles a fusion of Rick Geary and Cully Hamner with just a dash of Frank Quitely. (Oct.)

Peter Capaldi Rumored To Be Leaving Doctor Who

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22321:]]

Update: Peter Capaldi is returning for Doctor Who Series 10.

Is it time to hit the panic button?

Amidst dwindling viewership for the new season of Doctor Who, not only is it confirmed that Jenna Coleman is leaving, but now it’s said Peter Capaldi is contemplating leaving the series

That’s not all as the UK’s Mirror is also reporting there may be a change in the way Doctor Who episodes are released.

With ratings and the numbers of viewers down this year the Mirror is stating sources are considering scrapping next year’s series of Doctor Who and screening feature-length specials instead, similar to the way episodes of Sherlock are released.

It’s said Doctor Who is the BBC’s biggest-selling program overseas, but according to the report, Doctor Who has hit a “crisis period” as viewership is now below four million (down around 2 million).

Regarding Peter Capaldi leaving the show, the reason given is said because Capaldi wants to spend more time with his family.

So with Capaldi and Coleman leaving, execs are considering scrapping next season and instead releasing a couple of “Sherlock-style” feature-length episodes plus the Doctor Who Christmas Special.

It’s also rumored the BBC may reboot Doctor Who with a new cast in 2017 with Richard Madden (Game Of Thrones, Cinderella) said to be at the top of the list to play the new Doctor. A new female Doctor Who is also said to be a contender.

The BBC is also developing a Doctor Who spinoff aimed at younger viewers with Class.

Steven Moffat Responds To Doctor Who Sonic Sunglasses Complaints (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22316:]]

If you happened to watch the last couple of episodes of Doctor Who, you may have noticed the Sonic Screwdriver has been turned into Sonic Sunglasses.

I found it noticeably absent with this past Saturday’s episode as lots of potential tech was present which the Doctor may have used the screwdriver on, and it turns out I’m not the only one who took notice.

There is a petition online to “Get Rid of the Sonic Sunglasses” and bring back the Sonic Screwdriver that has amassed a little over 1600 signatures in addition to fan complaints on social media.

While the number isn’t all that high, Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat has taken notice and posted the following response on the official Doctor Who Facebook page. Below you can check out the video.

“Sometimes you have to be heretical. Sometimes you actually have to embrace the heresy. And I just thought, really, on a whim, why would The Doctor feel wedded to a screwdriver? Maybe he fancies varying it for a while, maybe he’ll pop his sonic glasses on instead. Also, it maybe resurrected the original joke which we’ve sort of slightly forgotten, that the screwdriver was just a screwdriver that made a noise. It’s gradually become this all-purpose everything that looks really cool… It’s fun to be naughty. I know some people are incredibly irate about it, and I’m sure the screwdriver will show up again someday. But just to show that we can – why not?”

Perhaps Moffat is right and it’s time for a change. Hey, sunglasses are cool, too, right?

ABC Picks Up Marvel’s Damage Control

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22307:]]

On the heels of DC’s own planned Powerless TV series, it’s learned ABC has picked up Marvel’s Damage Control, which is also described as a half-hour live-action comedy.

Deadline reports ABC has put in for a put pilot committment (which generally means a guaranteed series) for Damage Control.

Damaged Control is being developed for TV by former Daily Show and Colbert Report executive producer Ben Karlinwith the series said to: “follow the overworked, underpaid, clean up crew of the Marvel Universe. Specializing in dealing with the aftermath of the unique fallout from superhero conflicts, they’re the ones who are in charge of returning lost ray guns to their rightful owners, help to reschedule a wedding venue after it has been vaporized in a superhero battle, or even track down a missing prize African parrot that’s been turned to stone or goo.”

Ben Karlin is writing the script for the project and wil be executive producer alongside 3 Arts’ David Miner and Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb.

No Marvel characters are yet confirmed for the Damage Control series, but in the comic, Ant-Man and Hercules have been a part of the group at one time or another.

Regarding DC’s Powerless, which NBC is picking up, that series is said to be similar in filming to The Office (single camera) and takes place at workplace comedy set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics.

New Doctor Who “Class” Spinoff Announced

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22298:]]

The BBC has announced a new Doctor Who spinoff with Class, which looks to be aimed at younger viewers as it’s about a group of school kids attending Coal Hill School, which has shared a history with the Doctor for some time as companion Clara Oswald recently taught there.

Class is being written by Patrick Ness and is described as: Incredible dangers are breaking through the walls of time and space, and with darkness coming, London is unprotected. With all the action, heart and adrenalin of the best YA fiction (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Hunger Games), this is Coal Hill School and Doctor Who like you’ve never seen them before.

“No one has documented the dark and exhilarating world of the teenager like Patrick Ness, and now we’re bringing his brilliant story-telling into Doctor Who. This is growing up in modern Britain – but with monsters!” Steven Moffat told the BBC.

Writer Patrick Ness added:  “I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. There’s so much room there for all kinds of amazing stories, and to work with Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin to find a place to tell one of my own has been an absolute joy. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your A-Levels.”

Class is being developed for BBC Three consisting of eight 45 minute episodes; the series  is executive produced by Steven Moffatt, Patrick Ness and Brian Minchin.

The series will film in and around Wales from Spring, 2016 and be on air next year.
