Temuera Morrison says Disney and Lucasfilm have put Boba Fett on hold following the release of The Book of Boba Fett, confirming the character currently has no active plans in Star Wars.
The actor revealed the update while speaking with Inverse, explaining that he received a call from Lucasfilm after joking with fans about campaigning for more Boba Fett.

Temuera Morrison Says Lucasfilm Put Boba Fett “On The Shelf”
Morrison recalled telling fans at a convention to send letters and emails to Lucasfilm asking for more Boba Fett. The comment apparently got the studio’s attention, which Disney didn’t like.
“I was only joking. I’m at a convention, and I say stupid things,” Morrison told Inverse.
According to Morrison, Lucasfilm quickly contacted him afterward with a blunt message about the character’s status.
“Then I’ve got [Lucasfilm] ringing me: ‘Look, you’ve been put on the shelf, Boba Fett. We might open up the jar later,” he said.
The statement suggests the fan-favorite bounty hunter currently isn’t part of Disney’s immediate plans for the franchise.

Morrison Reflects On The Book Of Boba Fett
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the character’s future, Morrison said he still looks back on the experience of leading The Book of Boba Fett fondly.
“It was a big deal for me,” Morrison explained.
“When you do a series like Boba Fett and work with Ming-Na [Wen], I started to think, ‘Man, this is it. I’m away. Season 2, 3, 4.’”
However, Morrison said the project ultimately came to an end after its first season.
“But at the end of it, we had a great time. I was honored to be brought back after all that time.”
The series aired on Disney+ in 2021 and followed Fett after his appearance in The Mandalorian, with Ming-Na Wen starring alongside Morrison as Fennec Shand.

Previous Reports Said Boba Fett Had No Future Plans
Morrison’s comments line up with earlier reports suggesting Lucasfilm had moved away from the character.
Back in November 2024, Morrison himself said there were no plans for Boba Fett moving forward.
A few months earlier in August 2024, reports also surfaced claiming Disney had canceled potential plans to bring the character back in future Star Wars projects.
Those reports suggested Lucasfilm had shifted its focus toward other characters and storylines.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Takes Center Stage
Instead of Boba Fett, Disney appears to be placing another bounty hunter front and center.
The upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie will bring Din Djarin and Grogu to theaters in May as Lucasfilm’s next major Star Wars release.
The film continues the story from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and represents the franchise’s return to the big screen.
While Morrison says Boba Fett has been “put on the shelf,” Lucasfilm left the door open by saying the jar could be opened again later.
For now, however, it appears the legendary bounty hunter has once again disappeared into the shadows.
