Peyton Reed Updates Ant-Man and the Wasp & Evangeline Lilly

Marvel recently released the new Paul Rudd Ant-Man clip for Captain America: Civil War, (watch below) and now while attending the Red Carpet World Premiere, director Peyton Reed offers an update on the Ant-Man and the Wasp movie, particularly in regards to Evangeline Lilly.

“Evangeline is an amazing actress. The first movie was really about her coming into her own as a hero, even though we didn’t see her suit up yet. So we’re so excited about now being able to show her fully formed and what she is as a superhero. Her power set, how she fights, and what are the injustices that matter to her that she wants to right. That’s part of the really fun thing of the next movie.”

“It just didn’t make sense for Wasp [to be in Civil War] because there’s so many characters in this movie, and you really want to see her become a hero and really spend time with her. She’s a complicated character and a rich character. We’re really, really having fun writing that.”

“The challenge in Ant-Man and the Wasp is just topping everything that comes before. But that’s a challenge I think with every Marvel movie, with every hero movie. You don’t want the audience to get bored and feel like, oh man, I saw that in the last movie. You always got to give them something different.”

“We’re just getting started. We’re working on it for a little while. Coming up with some ideas … It’s creatively fulfilling, and challenging, and daunting, and exciting, more than anything.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp has a July 6, 2018 release date.

Wasp Almost Made It Into Captain America: Civil War

Wasp almost made into Captain America: Civil War.

The writers on Civil War, Christopher Markus and Marcus McFeely, filled in the Collider that if Wasp had made it into the Ant-Man movie, Wasp would have been in Captain America 3.

CHRISTOPHER MARKUS: You know, almost everybody made it in. There was a period where we talked about bringing Wasp in. There was actually a draft Wasp was in because she was so almost on the edge of being in Ant-Man, but then you’re taking something awesome out of the Ant-Man team’s quiver if it’s like, “Well, we’re doing her!” Plus she had a similar skill set, so it’s like “Well, maybe we just isolate it to Scott.

MARCUS MCFEELY: When you see the movie, you see that Scott is his own comic relief so it would change that a little bit. They would be this pair. Everybody else we would talk about them and then they’d go away, but we got most everybody back.

Nine months ago also saw Kevin Feige address why they didn’t use Wasp in Captain America: Civil War.

She was included in early versions of [Captain America: Civil War] but there are so many characters in Civil War that we didn’t want to do her a disservice, like she flies in, ‘I’ve got the costume now’, and she flies out.

With Ant-Man, and I’m not saying thats what Ant-Man does in the movie, but we already know him, we’ve already seen him. We haven’t seen her as Wasp and we don’t want to rob the opportunity of seeing her in the outfit for at least almost the first time, and seeing her dynamic with Scott in a way it could play out, so we’re saving it. But its going to be in Phase three for sure.”

While Wasp didn’t make it into Captain America: Civil War, Evangeline Lilly will suit up with Paul Rudd in the sequel to Ant-Man, aptly titled Ant-Man & Wasp, which hits July 6, 2018. It’s also possible we could see Wasp in Avengers: Infinity War prior to that on May 4, 2018.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Marvel Comics Teaser: Beware My Sting

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23806:]]

Following Tuesday’s “Dead No More” teaser, Marvel Comics has released a “Beware My Sting” teaser image.

It was initially thought the teasers might have something to do with Secret Wars #9; however, the issue has since been released where it appears the teaser images have nothing to do with the issue.

The next guess is Wolverine, as the “Dead No More” font seems to match the font for Wolverine, but “Beware My Sting” doesn’t seem to hint at the berserker raging mutie.

Now it’s assumed the two teasers may be related to Eric O’Grady, Ant-Man, who died in the pages of Secret Avengers back in 2012. Wasp is also featured in All-New Wolverine #5, which might play into things.

Ant-Man Original Wasp Concept Art Revealed

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22205:]]

Check out concept art below for the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, as done by artist Andy Park for the Ant-Man movie.

As we known from watching the movie, Janet was seemingly lost in the Quantum Realm (Microverse), but potentially spotted in an Easter Egg.

Evangeline Lilly plays Janet and Hank’s daugher, Hope Van Dyne, and will be a big part of an upcoming Marvel movie as Wasp. Maybe we’ll get to see the original Wasp as well.

Artist Andy Park was also responsible for the cool Guardians of the Galaxy Nebula and Gamora art and the variant cover for The Thanos Quest reprint.

Evangeline Lilly Scanned For Wasp Costume & Is Writing A Comic

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21762:]]

Evangeline Lilly is currently starring in the Ant-Man movie as Hope Van Dyne, daughter to Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne.

As seen in the Ant-Man post-credit scene, Hank Pym gave Hope the Wasp suit.

Now while participating in a fan Q&A on Facebook, Evangeline Lilly reveals she was scanned for the Wasp costume, but not able to try it on as she is currently about eight months pregnant.

Lilly also commented that she is writing a comic book next year, though it’s not a super hero character.

It was also previously revealed that Wasp has been cut from Captain America: Civil War, but there are big plans for Wasp in a future Marvel movie.

Check out what Lilly had to say:

Wasp Costume:

Oh! And I was scanned for #TheWasp suit, but then I got pregnant. Let’s hope I fit it again! #ineedtime! [winks]

No. I’ve been too pregnant

Writing a comic:

I am writing one next year. So, I have to keep it a surprise. It’s not a superhero, but she is a very cool heroine.

Fighting Hulk:

I love your ideas and will share them with Marvel! I would love to see Wasp fight The Incredible Hulk. I think she would just roll her eyes at his temper and fly circles around him until he was exasperated. smile emoticon Haha!

Difference between Edgar Wright and Peyton Reed’s Hope:

She became more relatable and a little less like an original, 1960’s comic book character. I LOVED both versions, but the version we settled with fit better in the #marvelverse. I’d still love to do Edgar Wright’s version, too.

On Marvel movies and who she would like to work with:

I haven’t seen them all, but I really liked Winter Soldier for the powerful political commentary and who doesn’t love RDJ as #IronMan?? That said, I would love to work with #MarkRuffalo. I think it would be fun to see the interchange between Paul and my tiny characters and him.

A cut scene:

You wouldn’t know it to watch it, but the dinner scene between #CoreyStoll’s character and mine had me in stitches when we shot it. They cut a lot out.

Wasp Cut From Captain America: Civil War

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21437:]]

It’s learned early drafts of Captain America: Civil War included the Wasp.

Wasp was revealed in the Ant-Man movie, first as Janet Pym in the microverse scene, and then Han Pym gave the Wasp suit to Hope in the mid-credit scene.

While Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige recently revealed Wasp will be a big part of an upcoming movie, it’s learned it won’t be Captain America: Civil War.

“She was included in early versions of [Captain America: Civil War] but there are so many characters in Civil War that we didn’t want to do her a disservice, like she flies in, ‘I’ve got the costume now’, and she flies out,” Feige told SlashFilm.

Feige continues with confirmation Ant-Man will be in Civil War, as well as that Wasp will be featured in Marvel’s Phase 3 plans.

“With Ant-Man, and I’m not saying thats what Ant-Man does in the movie, but we already know him, we’ve already seen him,” Feige offered. “We haven’t seen her as Wasp and we don’t want to rob the opportunity of seeing her in the outfit for at least almost the first time, and seeing her dynamic with Scott in a way it could play out, so we’re saving it. But its going to be in Phase three for sure.”

“Ant-Man” is currently playing in theaters, and “Captain America: Civil War” hits May 6, 2016.
