New concept art has been released for Blade Runner 2.

EW.com debuted the art along with comments from director Denis Villeneuve (Ridley Scott is on board as producer).

Villeneuve confirmed Blade Runner 2 “takes place several decades after the original. The setting is once again a future Los Angeles, albeit one that spreads over much of the West Coast.”

“The climate has gone berserk – the ocean, the rain, the snow is all toxic,” Villeneuve said.

The vehicle pictured in the concept art is described as kind of snow blower that hovers over the streets and destroys snow. “It’s a Canadian wet dream!” laughed Villeneuve.

Harrison Ford will be back for Blade Runner 2 who is also joined by Ryan Cosling. Regarding Ford’s Rick Deckard, Villeneuve offered ”he’s full of wisdom and good advice.”

“It’s a great team and spirits are very high,” Villenevue said. “Failure is not an option.”

Ridley Scott Says Hard R-Rating For Alien: Covenant

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23814:]]

At the Golden Globes, Ridley Scott lets it be known he wants Alien: Covenant to have a hard R-rating.

In a Q&A with the press (see video below), following winning two awards for The Martian, Scott is asked how he feels about the horror and science-fiction fans looking forward to his movies.

“That’s why I’m doing it, dude. I think I am going to do pretty hard R,” Scott said.

The director the went on to recall editing Alien – realizing just how much horror was in the movie, especially with the chestbuster scene – and offers he wants to do something “much worse” for Alien: Coventant.

“I always remember walking down the edge in Saint Louis when we were previewing [Alien],” Scott recalls. “I couldn’t sit through the film one more time. I walked down the edge into the kitchen scene when John Hurt started to bring up his breakfast. That moment, I realized how pretty scary the film was… I felt a sense of responsibility that I had gone too far because it was extreme. I’m going to try and do that again this year, but much worse.”

Scott also previously offered the film with have “all the Aliens.”

Alien: Covenant has an October 6, 2017 release starring Michael Fassbender.

Syopsis:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Alien: Covenant Will Have All The Aliens Says Ridley Scott

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23276:]]

With the recent change in title, it should come as no surprise that the sequel to Prometheus is actually more an “Alien” film than the latter, and now Ridley Scott offers further details.

Speaking with The Wrap, Ridley Scott confirms it’s more Alien and also offers that Alien: Covenant will feature the Xenomorphs fans have come to know from the original movies.

Via The Wrap:

Yeah. Well, really it’s “Alien.” They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.

There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two.

Alien: Covenant has an October 6, 2017 release starring Michael Fassbender.

Neill Blomkamp Alien Movie On Hold

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22711:]]

The Neill Blomkamp Alien movie is now on hold as the director let the news be known via Twitter.

Fox has apparently decided to put the project on the (temporay?) back-burner because of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, which is due out May 30, 2017, and is now titled Alien: Paradise Lost.

The Blomkamp Alien movie has generated a lot of excitement as both Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn were set to be on board. In addition, Blomkamp released concept art of his designs with the most recent being a version of the Alien Pulse Rifle. The movie was looking to come out around 2017.

Prometheus 2 Starts Filming In February

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22107:]]

Ridley Scott debuted The Martian at the recent Toronto Film Festival, and while there confirmed Prometheus 2 will start filming in February as well as that Michael Fassbender will be back for the sequel.

Scott spoke with Deadline offering: “Fassbender will do this one with me, and it’s meant to start production in February. I’m in prep, now. I’ll either shoot in Aussie, or here.”

Ridley Scott also offered where he might take the direction of the film, which is inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey.

You can either say, leave the first film alone and jump ahead, but you can’t because it ends on too specific a plot sentence as she says, I want to go where they came from, I don’t want to go back to where I came from. I thought the subtext of that film was a bit florid and grandiose, but it asks a good question: who created us? I don’t think we are here by accident. I find it otherwise hard to believe you and I are sitting here at this table, because the molecular miracles that would have had to occur were in the trillions, since the first sign of human life that crawled out of the mud with four fingers, would bloody well be impossible, unless there was some guidance system. Also, you have the sun approximately the same distance from earth as it is from maybe millions of planets and planetoids that are almost identical distance and therefore enjoy the value of sunlight on their soil. Are you telling me there are no other planets with human life? I simply don’t believe it.

That raises the question to me, same as was depicted in 2001 when that object comes hurtling through space, and lands in Ethiopia. And an ape that had been grubbing around in the water hole with all of them bickering at each other, goes up and touches it. He has a bigger thought injected into his brain than Newton got sitting under a tree and seeing an apple fall. Stanley then picks something metaphorically poetic in its violence, as the ape picks up a hip bone and brains the anteater so they can eat him. That is one gigantic, magnificent leap of a thousand years of evolution; that is where the world begins. It is pretty grand thinking, and that’s what I want to explore. You’ve got to go back and find those engineers and see what they are thinking. If engineers are the forerunners of us, and therefore were creators of life forms in places that were possible for biology to function, who created that? Where’s the big boy? You think this was all an accident? I don’t know. Even Stephen Hawking now says, I am not sure. He no longer believes in the big bang.

The first Prometheus debuted in 2012 netting over $400 million at the box office. Noomi Rapace will also be back for the sequel, and the Neill Blomkamp untitled Alien movie is scheduled for a 2017 release.
