DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 Synopsis & Vixen Poster Released

Jumping from the digital CW Seed animated series to DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2, check out a new poster for Vixen.

Vixen is being played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers, who actually is playing Amaya Jiwe, the grandmother of the animated series’ Mari McCabe (time travel obviously involved).

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow returns in October to The CW.

Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 synopsis:

After the defeat of the immortal villain Vandal Savage and the corrupt Time Masters who colluded with him, a new threat emerges. Dr. Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), an unconventional and charming historian, is thrust into the action upon making a shocking discovery – the Legends are scattered throughout time.

Nate must find a way to rescue season one’s beloved team of heroes and rogues, including billionaire inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), who has created an exo-suit with the power to shrink him to miniscule size, as the Atom; Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), the White Canary, a trained assassin; Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh), who together form the meta-human Firestorm; and Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell), aka Heat Wave, a career criminal. When the Legends encounter the J.S.A (the Justice Society of America, the precursor to DC’s Justice League) in the 1940s, Amaya Jiwe (Maisie RichardsonSellers), aka Vixen, joins the team. While the team reunites, a mystery looms – the fate of former captain Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill).

Once reunited, the Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations – unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences. When Nate, the grandson of J.S.A. member Commander Steel, unexpectedly finds himself with powers, he must overcome his own insecurities and find the hero within himself. Ultimately, the Legends will clash with foes both past and present, to save the world from a mysterious new threat.

Based on the characters from DC, DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”), Marc Guggenheim (“Arrow,” “Eli Stone,” “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters”), Andrew Kreisberg (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Eli Stone,” “Warehouse 13”), Phil Klemmer (“The Tomorrow People,” “Chuck”), Chris Fedak (“Forever,” “Chuck”) and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash”).

CW Announces Freedom Fighters: The Ray Digital Animated Series

Following Vixen, The CW has announced a second animated DC series for its digital network, CW Seed, with Freedom Fighters: The Ray.

Full details below.

“FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY” COMING TO CW SEED IN 2017

August 11, 2016 (Beverly Hills, Calif.) – CW Seed, the digital channel of The CW Network, will debut a new animated series in 2017, FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY, based on the characters from DC and produced by Warner Bros.’ digital studio Blue Ribbon Content.

In DC’s Multiversity series, writer Grant Morrison updated the Freedom Fighters to better reflect American demographics. Inspired by Morrison’s new take on the character, the series FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY will introduce the first gay Super Hero to lead a show.

Based on the characters from DC, FREEDOM FIGHTERS: THE RAY is from Berlanti Productions in association with Blue Ribbon Content, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Supergirl,” “The Flash,” “Arrow”) and Marc Guggenheim (“Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow”).

ABOUT THE RAY:

Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice – he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

Stargirl Joins DC’s Legends of Tomorrow

Add another member of the Justice Society Of America to DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow with Stargirl.

Sarah Grey, who has a role in the upcoming Power Rangers movie and is also known for iZombie and Lucifer, will play Stargirl and is said to join Hourman (Patrick J. Adams), Commander Steel (Matthew MacCaull), Vixen (Amaya Jiwe), Dr. Mid-Nite, and Obsidian in the JSA. The latter two have yet to be cast.

Stargirl, in the comics, has a cosmic star belt and Star-Rod that give her various abilities including super strength, martial arts, Star Blasts, invulnerability, flight, cosmic energy projection, able to manipulate energy, create energy constructs, and can create defensive force-fields. Stargirl is also mentally connected to her Star-Rod.

Previous details made mention that the Justice Society wouldn’t be friends – at least at first- with the Legends Of Tomorrow.

“It’s all going to kick off with an epic battle between the Justice Society and the Legends,” EP Marc Guggenheim said. “It’s required that every time there’s more than one superhero in any place at any given time, they have to fight. We’re honoring that rule and that tradition straight out of the gate.”

Caity Lotz let it be known Season 2’s second episode is titled “The Justice Society Of America” as well, and the logo for the JSA was also revealed (see below)

Comic-Con saw it learned that the JSA aren’t the only super team coming together in DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 as the series will introduce the Legion of Doom as the villains.

Stephen Amell also teased the big crossover with DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl.

Batman, Constantine & More Rumored For DC CW TV Universe

A batch of rumors surrounding the DC TV universe surfaces which includes mention of Batman, Constantine, Batwoman, Oracle and more.

Now that both The Flash and Superman are appearing in both the movie and TV universes (played by different actors; movies and TV are separate universes), it’s possible WB may have relaxed their rules surrounding the sharing of characters. It’s actually a great route to go as WB can take advantage of their popular characters across all forms of media, than say Marvel, which has one big shared universe (but no mention of the TV characters is ever made in the movies).

Regarding Batman, Bleeding Cool is stating that Fox currently has the TV rights, which is tied up with Gotham, but Fox may share the rights for a fee.

Constantine with Matt Ryan may get revived as part of the CW’s supernatural Friday as The Vampire Diaries is ending, and The CW may want to go with Constantine to fill the horror gap.

Batwoman is said to be appearing in Supergirl with Kathy/Kate Kane being Maggie Sawyer’s ex, whose adventures as Batwoman occasionally take her to National City.

Oracle Barbara Gordon is also said to be coming to Supergirl (though apparently not as Batgirl) where she befriends Kara, and the Oracle/Batwoman relationship/plot is said to resemble Birds of Prey

The Flash‘s John Wesley Shipp is said to be another cross-series regular, probably as Jay Garrick (similar deal to Wentworth Miller and John Barrowman).

It’s possible some of these announcements may be made this week at Comic-Con.

Kevin Smith Directing The Flash Season 3 Episode 7; Wants Arrow, Supergirl & Legends

Following Kevin Smith’s exellent episode of The Flash Season 2, it’s learned Smith will now be directing episode #7 of Season 3.

Den of Geek caught up with Kevin Smith who confirmed the news as well as stated he is still waiting on a call from Arrow.

“I know I’m going back to The Flash, first week of September, to direct episode 7 of season 3,” Smith said. “Still haven’t heard anything back from Arrow.”

Regarding Arrow, Kevin Smith says he wants to bring in his DC Comics character Onomatopoeia into the series.

“You know, I wish, it would be amazing because I would love to write and direct Onomatopoeia in the show,” Smith said. “Um, but I know they’re doing – what is it? – Wild Dog this year, as well as Vigilante, so maybe they’re just like ‘we don’t need you’, or whatever. But, at the moment, anyone over there raises a flag; I’m like ‘please, let me in!’ That’d be fun as fuck.”

Smith created Onomatopoeia back in Green Arrow #12. The character targets and kills heroes and has set his sights on the Arrow family in the comics.

Smith notes if he can’t get Arrow, he would like to do DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow or Supergirl.

“…even if they don’t, maybe I could do it on Flash, or Legends Of Tomorrow, or now Supergirl as well. There’s a couple of shows there,” Smith said.

Netflix and The CW Announce New Agreement: Includes Arrow, Flash, Supergirl & More

NETFLIX AND THE CW NETWORK ANNOUNCE NEW AGREEMENT

Complete Seasons of All Previous CW Scripted Series, Including ‘Supergirl,’

‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,’ ‘Jane the Virgin,’ ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash,’

to be Available Exclusively on Netflix

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF. – July 5, 2016 – Netflix, the world’s leading Internet television network, and The CW Network, a joint venture between CBS Corporation and Warner Bros. Entertainment, announced today a new multi-year content licensing relationship that allows Netflix [Nasdaq: NFLX] to remain the exclusive U.S. subscription television service for previous seasons of scripted series broadcast on The CW.

The new relationship spans all current CW series, as well as all future programs produced for the network during the term of the new agreement, which begins with the just-completed 2015-2016 broadcast season. Starting with the 2016-2017 season, Netflix members will be able to stream full seasons for each of these programs beginning eight days after each show’s season finale.

Programming available to Netflix members will include the three new series on The CW’s 2016-2017 primetime schedule: FREQUENCY, NO TOMORROW and RIVERDALE; the hit DC series LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and SUPERGIRL, which will join ARROW and FLASH; and the network’s critically acclaimed JANE THE VIRGIN and CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, featuring the Golden Globe-winning performances of Gina Rodriguez and Rachel Bloom, respectively. The roster will also continue to include fan favorites such as THE VAMPIRE DIARIES and series THE 100, IZOMBIE, THE ORIGINALS and REIGN.

“Netflix members in the US love the great lineup of series from The CW, and we are thrilled to extend the relationship and bring those shows to our members exclusively now, just eight days after their season finales,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “This is a great step forward with a valued network partner to give fans exactly what they want, when and how they want it.”

“Since the initial landmark deal in 2011, The CW’s programming has enjoyed tremendous success and increased exposure through Netflix, and our new agreement not only continues but enhances this valuable relationship,” said Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “The CW has positioned itself for the future by transforming into a true hybrid network, rooted in broadcast while fully embracing the digital and streaming habits of the viewers.”

“We are pleased to extend our valued partnership with Netflix for CW programming with more CBS-produced series, led by award-winning and critically acclaimed ‘Jane the Virgin’ and ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,’”said Scott Koondel, Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Content Licensing Officer, CBS Corporation. “This multi-year agreement recognizes the value of our content and it validates the marketplace’s confidence in our studio’s long-term ability to produce high-quality content. This unique windowing will further extend the CW brand and fan base throughout the television season while providing better in-season exclusivity for our broadcast affiliates, MVPD partners and potential OTT opportunities. We look forward to continued success with Netflix on this partnership well into the future.”

“For the past several years, the distinctive, high-quality shows we have been producing for The CW have proven their popularity across linear, on demand and digital properties here and around the world,” said Jeffrey Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution. “This new deal will provide consumers enhanced access to compatible programs like ‘Supergirl’ and DC’s ‘Legends of Tomorrow,’ while increasing the value of both in-season rights on The CW and prior seasons on Netflix.”

“Riverdale”: Things aren’t always what you expect in “Riverdale.” Based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics and produced by Berlanti Productions (“The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Blindspot,” “Everwood”), this one-hour drama is a bold, subversive take on the surreality of small-town life. As a new school year begins, the town of Riverdale is reeling from the recent, tragic death of high school golden boy Jason Blossom — and nothing feels the same. Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) is still the all-American teen, but the summer’s events made him realize that he wants to pursue a career in music — and not follow in his dad’s footsteps — despite the sudden end of his forbidden relationship with Riverdale’s young music teacher, Ms. Grundy (Sarah Habel). Which means Archie doesn’t have anyone who will mentor him — certainly not singer Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), who is only focused on her band, the soon-to-be-world-famous Pussycats. It’s all weighing heavily on Archie’s mind — as is his fractured friendship with budding writer and fellow classmate Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush, Archie, after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And Betty’s nerves — which are hardly soothed by her overbearing mother, Alice (Mädchen Amick) — aren’t the only thing holding her back. When a new student, Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), arrives in town from New York with her mother Hermione (Marisol Nichols), there’s an undeniable spark between she and Archie, even though Veronica doesn’t want to risk her new friendship with Betty by making a play for Archie. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) — Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows. “Riverdale” is from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Blindspot”), Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“Supergirl,” “Glee”), Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “Blindspot”) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics). “Riverdale” premieres midseason on The CW. Become a fan of “Riverdale” on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CWRiverdale, and follow the show on Twitter at @CW_Riverdale.

“Powerless”: It’s a Super Hero’s world. We just live in it. As the first comedy series set in the DC Universe, “Powerless” is the story of Emily (Vanessa Hudgens – “High School Musical”), a young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused when Super Heroes and Super Villains treat the city like their own personal battleground. Taking care of insurance needs one by one, Emily and her team of co-workers might not have any superpowers, but they are out to make a difference in people’s lives and prove that you don’t need to have powers to be powerful! From Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Ben Queen (“Cars 2”) and based on characters from DC, “Powerless” premieres midseason on NBC. “People of Earth”: From Emmy winners Conan O’Brien (“Conan”) and Greg Daniels (“The Office,” “Parks and Recreation”) and creator David Jenkins comes “People of Earth,” a half-hour single-camera comedy series about a support group for alien abductees. “People of Earth” centers on skeptical journalist Ozzie Graham (Wyatt Cenac – “The Daily Show”) who investigates the group to write about its members’ supposed alien encounters. The more he digs into their oddball claims, however, the more he realizes a semblance of truth to their stories and possibly even signs that point to his own alien abduction. The onetime outsider now finds himself a part of this eclectic group of misfits, all the while struggling with the idea of knowing that life could exist beyond our world. The series is executive produced by O’Brien, Daniels, Norm Hiscock (“King of the Hill”), Jeff Ross (“Conan”), David Kissinger (“Eagleheart”) and Larry Sullivan; Jenkins is co-executive producer. Produced by Conaco LLC in association with Warner Horizon Television, “People of Earth” is coming this fall to TBS.

“Frequency”: Based on the New Line feature film, “Frequency” is the story of a father and daughter who are supernaturally reunited two decades after his suspicious and untimely death. New York detective Raimy Sullivan was only seven when her father, undercover cop Frank Sullivan, abandoned his family in pursuit of a case that led not only to his family’s breakup, but also his eventual death undercover. Always believing her dad died in disgrace as a corrupt cop, Raimy set forth to surpass him in law enforcement, rising through the ranks to detective. But everything she knows changes when somehow Raimy and Frank connect — across two decades — over Frank’s vintage ham radio in the garage. Where once Frank was lost in the shadows of his undercover work in 1996, he has now miraculously been found by his now-grown daughter in 2016. As they forge a new relationship while working together in two time periods to close an unsolved serial murder investigation, their emotional connection transcends time to not only repair the broken bonds of their family, but also defy fate and change the course of destiny. From Lin Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television, “Frequency” premieres Wednesday, October 5 at 9/8c on The CW. Jeremy Carver (“Supernatural”), Toby Emmerich (“Frequency” film), John Rickard (“Horrible Bosses”), Dan Lin (“Sherlock Holmes” films), Jennifer Gwartz (“Veronica Mars”) and Brad Anderson (“Fringe”) are executive producers. “Time After Time”: Using the 1979 novel and movie as a launching point, “Time After Time” chronicles the epic adventures of a young H.G. Wells. At the age of 28, the 19th century scholar has yet to publish any of his landmark science fiction novels, but his idealistic thinking and radical ideas have led him to actually create a time machine. When his longtime friend — the charismatic (and secretly psychopathic) Dr. John Stevenson, aka Jack the Ripper — finds himself cornered by the authorities at Wells’ London home, he escapes to present-day New York City using the time machine. Naturally, Wells follows, but instead of the Utopian society he imagined would be in the future, he finds a world more aligned to Stevenson’s temperament. Fortunately, Wells meets up with Jane Walker, an assistant curator at a museum staging an exhibition on Wells. As Wells and Jane come together, they will not only play a dangerous endgame with Stevenson, but also find themselves involved with the incredible characters and scenarios that inspired Wells’ “War of the Worlds,” “The Invisible Man,” “The Island of Dr. Moreau” and more. An epic love story charged with danger and adventure, “Time After Time” gives an unpredictable spin on the mythology of H.G. Wells by looking at the world of today through the eyes of yesterday. Based on the novel written by Karl Alexander and produced by Outerbanks Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television, “Time After Time” premieres midseason on ABC. Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries”) and Marcos Siega (“The Following”) are executive producers. 6:30 p.m.–7:20 p.m. “Riverdale” Pilot Screening and Q&A — Things aren’t always what you expect in “Riverdale.” Based on the iconic characters from Archie Comics and produced by Berlanti Productions (“The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Blindspot,” “Everwood”), this one-hour drama is a bold, subversive take on the surreality of small-town life. Meanwhile, girl-next-door Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) is anxious to see her crush Archie after being away all summer, but she’s not quite ready to reveal her true feelings to him. And then there’s Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch)… Riverdale’s Queen Bee is happy to stir up trouble amongst Archie, Betty, and Veronica, but Cheryl is keeping secrets of her own. What, exactly, is she hiding about the mysterious death of her twin brother, Jason? Riverdale may look like a quiet, sleepy town, but there are dangers in the shadows. “Riverdale” makes its Comic-Con debut with a screening of the complete pilot episode, followed by a Q&A with series stars and executive producers. Deadline reports Minority Report‘s Nick Zano is playing Dr. Nate Heywood and will be a series regular.

In the series, Citizen Steel is described as a historian whose grandfather was Commander Steel, a member of the Justice Society of America.

It’s further said: In the comics, “Nate becomes Steel/Citizen Steel, a former member of the Justice League of America. The producers of the CW series are being ambiguous whether Nate will walk in his grandfather’s super heroic footsteps but, given the superhero nature of the show, that appears almost certain.”

In addition to Nick Zano, DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow will cast a second series regular.

Ciara Renee, who play Hawkgirl, left the show with the final episode of Season 1, and Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold will now be a recurring character on both The Flash and Legends next season.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow Season 2 will return in the Fall on The CW.

Fan-favorite actor Dominic Purcell, who plays Heatwave on DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, was seriously hurt in an accident on the set of filming for Prison Break.

Purcell suffered a broken nose and head injury when a set piece fell on the actor’s head. The good news is that Purcell is expected to make a full recovery.

No Alan Scott Green Lantern For DC TV Universe

It’s learned – again – that Green Lantern won’t be appearing any time in the DC TV Universe.

Prior to Thursday’s episode of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, it was thought that possibly the surprise character reveal at the end was Alan Scott Green Lantern; however, EP Marc Guggenheim shot that down and notes the character is attached to the films.

“I’ll tell you right now, because I never want anyone to be disappointed, he’s not Alan Scott,” Guggenheim told CBR. “I love Alan Scott. I’ve written Alan Scott in the comics. Alan Scott is also attached to the Green Lantern franchise, which DC obviously has feature plans for. In the poll of ‘who it’s going to be,’ you can cross off Alan Scott.”

It’s been speculated Green Lantern has been wanted for DC TV due to the many Easter Eggs found in the various series, with one even going so far to describe a certain pilot. I do think this season has seen the Green Lantern Easter Eggs subside, obviously due to the Green Lantern Corps and Justice League movies. We already know WB put the kibosh on using Suicide Squad for Arrow, Blue Beetle, and it’s probably a safe bet that Black Canary was killed off to make way for the character to appear in the DCEU. More than likely, WB doesn’t want another controversy similar to Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller as The Flash, so no characters will be shared.

Watch: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season Finale Final Scene Spoiler & Season 2 Details

Spoilers follow for the season finale of DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

Tonight’s episode saw the team come out on top as they managed to finally kill Vandal Savage, and then at the end we were treated to a couple of big surprises.

The first is that both Hawkman and Hawkgirl decided not to rejoin the team as time cops. After 4000 years of not being allowed to be together, now with Vandal dead, they can have a life to themselves. Off they flew (and won’t be a part of Season 2).

The second was the big reveal at the end (watch below) with none other than Rex Tyler, Hourman. A second Waverider ship from the future finds the team with Hourman revealing he was sent back in time by Mick to warn the team not to board their Waverider as they all die.

Hourman also tells them team he’s from the Justice Society of America.

Check out the scene below.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim also had this to say about Season 2 (via THR):

With his final words in the finale, he planted a pretty deep flag about where we’re headed in season two, which is not just introducing Hourman but introducing his teammates in the Justice Society of America,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim tells The Hollywood Reporter. “For comic book fans, everyone knows the Justice Society is really the precursor to the Justice League, so it’s a pretty big move in our DC universe here on TV.”

“One of the other big things we’ve done in the season finale is we planted another flag in the form of Rip’s [Arthur Darvil] statement. Because the Time Masters are essentially gone and the Legends have destroyed the Oculus, that all means that someone else has to do the job of the Time Masters,” Guggenheim says. “Our Legends take that on as their new responsibility. It’s sort of like, you break it, you buy it.”

“The season two big bad is actually not going to be the [alien race of] Thanagarians,” Guggenheim says. “It’s going to be something else entirely. All I’ll really say about the nemesis in season two is Vandal Savage looks like a walk in the park compared to what the Legends will be facing. This will be a much, much bigger threat. I’m going to leave it at that because when we do reveal it, it’s going to be pretty big. People will be asking, ‘Vandal who?’ once they get the full picture of what our team is up against. It’s going to be way bigger than what you can even imagine, I can guarantee it.”
