Rachael Taylor Cast As Hellcat For Jessica Jones Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18943:]]

Marvel has announced that Rachael Taylor will play Patricia “Trish” Walker in the Netflix Jessica Jones series.

The character, also known as Hellcat in the Marvel comics, is described as: a syndicated radio talk show host, former model and child TV star known to her adoring fans as “Patsy” Walker. As Jessica Jones’ closest friend, Trish helps her embark on the most dangerous case of Jessica’s career.

“The character is a star and a powerhouse, and required an actress who is both,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg Rosenberg. “Rachael is all that and more!”

“Rachael’s ability to embody a character that must balance both the darker and lighter elements of our series will provide a perfect emotional anchor for Jessica Jones,” added Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “Rachael blew us away with her grounded, humanizing take on Trish, adding yet another layer to the complex, emotional story we’re telling with this series.”

Taylor, known for Transformers, Grey’s Anatomy, 666 Park Avenue, Charlie’s Angels and Crisis, joins Krysten Stewart (Jessica Jones), David Tennant (Kilgrave) and Mike Colter (Luke Cage).

Hellcat in the comics has mystical powers and was trained in martial arts by both Captain America and Moondragon.

Jessica Jones premiers on Netflix later this year with 13 episodes available immediately to stream and watch.

Synopsis:

After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

David Tennant Talks Marvel (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18922:]]

Marvel recently announced the casting of David Tennant for the Netflix Jessica Jones series.

Tennant has been named to being playing the villain known as Kilgave.

While not exactly confirmed for Jessica Jones, Kilgrave in the comics is Zebediah Killgrave aka The Purple Man.

Radio Times caught up with Tennant and questioned the actor about Marvel and the character, where you can see in the following video that Tennant happens to be wearing a purple tie.

“I grew up on Marvel comics, so it’s very exciting to be part of their ever expanding entertainment empire,” Tennant said. “It’s great. I love the movies, I love the TV shows that they do, so I’m very pleased to be part of one.

“I grew up an absolute devotee to the worlds of Marvel,” Tennant continued. “So the fact that they’ve expanded now into TV and film is something that I think I sort of fantasized about when I was younger. So now to be part of it, to be on the other side of it is a thrill.

While it’s been said David Tennant will be playing a villain, the former Doctor Who remains coy.

“Who says it’s a villain?” Tennant questioned with a smile. “Make no assumptions. I’m saying nothing. I’ve found myself in another world which I can answer no questions about.”

Watch the video below for more from David Tennant.

“Jessica Jones” stars Krysten Ritter as the titular character and Mike Colter as Luke Cage.

“Anyone familiar with David’s work knows he brings an incredible level of dedication to any role he inhabits, a level we knew we would need from the man playing Kilgrave,” added Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel’s Head of Television. “While most know him for his roles as a hero, we can’t wait to unleash a whole new side of this talented actor.”

Daredevil will be followed by Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Iron Fist, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and a combined Defenders series, each to be released about a year apart. Free of content restrictions, the shows have more “leeway” for violence and sex, “but people shouldn’t come to this expecting me to deliver the Spartacus of Marvel,” says Daredevil executive producer Steven DeKnight. But “we’re able to explore morally gray areas, where you’re rooting for the bad guy and questioning the good guy, which is more difficult on network TV.”

No Avengers In Daredevil Netflix Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:18539:]]

Netflix has the Daredevil series set to premiere on May 1st, which is the weekend that Marvel Studios premiers The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

It’s unknown if the May 1st date is simply a placeholder for a May opening or if all 13 Daredevil episodes will officially be released that Friday.

Update: Daredevil premiers April 10th.

Just in case you thought maybe the two would be somehow connected, it’s learned the Daredevil series will be its own “uniquely localized Marvel Story.”

EW.com provided a few tidbits of Daredevil where head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb, made mention nobody will be seen flying around in the skies of DD.

“Within the Marvel universe there are thousands of heroes of all shapes and sizes, but The Avengers are here to save the universe and Daredevil is here to save the neighborhood,” Loeb offered. “It’s a very unique look at Hell’s Kitchen in New York, where Matt Murdock grew up and continues to defend it from people who would harm the people that live there. It does take place in the Marvel cinematic universe. It’s all connected. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that we would look up in the sky and see [Iron Man]. It’s just a different part of New York that we have not yet seen in the Marvel movies.”

Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight continues with mention Daredevil is not a superhero show.

“We really wanted to take our cue from [films like] The French ConnectionDog Day AfternoonTaxi Driver, and make it very, very grounded, very gritty, very real,” DeKnight said. “We always say we would rather lean toward The Wire than what’s considered a classic superhero television show.”

Loeb also adds there will be no Thor.

“There aren’t going to be people flying through the sky. There are no magic hammers,” Loeb said.

Daredevil stars Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Vincent D’Onofrio (WilsonFisk), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Scott Glenn (Stick), Bob Gunton (Leland Owlsley), Toby Leonard Moore (Wesley), Vondie Curtis Hall (Ben Urich) and Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Marianna).
