Daisy Ridley Breaks Silence on Star Wars: New Jedi Order — But Movie Still Looks Dead

Daisy Ridley has offered an update on Star Wars: New Jedi Order, but her comments won’t ease concerns that the film may never happen.

Speaking to Parade, Ridley stayed vague about the long-delayed project, which was announced in 2023 as her supposed return to the franchise following The Rise of Skywalker.

“It will arrive when it’s ready, and it will be worth the wait,” Ridley said, offering no new details about production, casting, or release plans.

Lucasfilm has yet to confirm who else might return for the film, and there is still no official release date. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is supposed to direct, with the latest version of the script from George Nolfi.

Sequel Trilogy Fallout Still Looms Large

There’s doubt the flick may actually get off the ground, joining a large number of projects under Kathleen Kennedy.

After The Rise of Skywalker, Lucasfilm put theatrical Star Wars releases on pause for seven years due to The Last Jedi destroying the franchise.

That hiatus has raised doubts about whether Disney wants to revisit the sequel era at all, especially with fan interest fractured and box office confidence shaken.

Leadership Shakeups Could End the Project

The outlook for New Jedi Order looks even bleaker with major leadership changes on the horizon.

Kathleen Kennedy is widely expected to finally exit Lucasfilm in 2026, while Bob Iger is also slated to step down as Disney CEO the same year.

With both executives tied to the sequel trilogy era, the next leadership team may move away from projects associated with that period, including Daisy Ridley and New Jedi Order.

Only Two Star Wars Movies Left on the Slate

At present, Disney has only two Star Wars films scheduled for release: Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu (May 22, 2026) and Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter (May 28, 2027).
