With Spider-Man back at Marvel a lot of fans are hoping Spider-Man: Homecoming will be a big hit.
Following the poorly received Amazing Spider-Man movies, Sony and Disney came to a mutual deal which sees Marvel Studios creatively produce Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The good news for Sony and Marvel is that the current tracking for Spider-Man: Homecoming is in the $100 million range as Deadline reports current estimates range between a $90M-$108M opening weekend for July 7th.
It’s always possible Spider-Man: Homecoming could open bigger as we get closer to the release of the movie and more buzz is created. In addition, similar to Wonder Woman, if the early reviews for Spider-Man: Homecoming are overwhelmingly positive, the movie will probably open higher.
For comparison to the previous Spider-Man movies, Amazing Spider-Man opened with $62M and Amazing Spider-Man 2’s opening weekend was $91.6M.
Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies are even higher with the first film opening to $114,844,116 back in 2002; Spider-Man 2 opened to $115M, and Spider-Man 3 opened to a whopping $151M.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
Synopsis:
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
