It’s learned that Sony is ditching Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the Marvel TV side of things amid a reported budget feud involving the upcoming Spider-Man Noir series.
In addition to their movie deal, Lord and Miller signed a five-year TV deal with Sony starting in 2019 to develop Spider-Man spinoff projects.
You’ll recall at one time the live-action Silk: Spider Society was supposed to happen. However, reportedly, Sony chose to dump the project in favor of the upcoming Nicolas Cage Spider-Noir series.
“Endured a heated fight over its budget”
The report comes from Puck News who says that Sony is not going to renew their TV deal, which expires this year. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, also happen to be the writers and producers behind Sony’s billion dollar Spider-Verse franchise.
The report also mentions Spider-Man: Noir has has “endured a heated fight over its budget.”
Now the article doesn’t specifically state the budget feud is between Sony and Lord & Miller, who are listed as executive producers.
Sony probably wants a lesser budget is my guess, but the creatives involved with Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir series want a better, higher budget. Sony probably also doesn’t want it to go over budget.
Here’s the blurb from the article:
The Spider-Verse Oscar winners signed a five-year, nine-figure TV deal with Sony Pictures Television in April 2019 with the goal of rebooting Spidey for television. The first show, Silk: Spider Society, from The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang, was scrapped in May after two years in development. And Amazon’s Nicolas Cage vehicle, Noir, has endured a heated fight over its budget. Sony is not expected to renew the deal.
Lord and Miller are still developing the third Spider-Verse movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and, as of yet there is no release date. However, the good news is that the movie is said to be in “deep in production” and that the voice actors will begin recording “in a few months.”
