Who is Maria Robotnika?

In Sonic lore, Maria Robotnika is the granddaughter of Professor Gerald Robotnik and the cousin of Dr. Eggman (Jim Carrey’s character). She first appeared in the game Sonic Adventure 2 released in 2001.

In the game’s storyline, Maria plays a crucial role in the background of Shadow the Hedgehog, another character introduced in Sonic Adventure 2. Maria was a kind and compassionate human who formed a close bond with Shadow, who is an anthropomorphic hedgehog created by Professor Gerald Robotnik. In the game, Maria suffered from a terminal illness, so Gerald worked on Project Shadow in hopes of finding a cure.

No spoilers, but what happens to Maria greatly impacts Shadow.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released on December 20, 2024 which is now filming with director Jeff Fowler back helming the third movie.

“Off and RUNNING,” posted the film’s social media account back in November following the strikes ending, which features a clapperboard and a tease of Shadow The Hedgehog who in the game more of an anti-hero than a straight up villain.

The two Sonic movies have brought in over $870 million.
