In an update for Avatar fans, Sigourney Weaver has officially confirmed that she will be appearing in the series through its fifth installment.
Sigourney Weaver, a legendary figure in the sci-fi genre, has been a cornerstone of the Avatar series since its inception.
Her character, Dr. Grace Augustine, played a pivotal role in the original 2009 film, and Weaver returned as a new character in the sequel.
Confirms involvements in Avatar 3, 4, 5
In a recent interview with Deadline where she also confirmed appearing in The Mandalorian & Grogu, Sigourney Weaver confirmed her role in Avatar 3 and, when asked about her involvement in the fourth and fifth films, she responded, “Yes, I think I’m allowed to say that.”
She also commented on the franchise’s unprecedented level of success.
“I remember reading the script of the first Avatar and reading about these blue people with pointed ears and tails riding on these creatures through floating mountains … I couldn’t imagine any of it being shot,” Weaver said. “I honestly couldn’t imagine how he would ever make a film that looked like this and had these elements. But I’m so glad for Jim, and for the success of these films, which has meant we’re able to keep making them. I just finished working on Avatar 3 earlier this month, actually, and I think the series will continue to grow and be more and more hard-hitting.”
James Cameron still working on three
Regarding Avatar 4 and 5, Sigourney Weaver mentioned that James Cameron is still working on the third installment and that they haven’t started on parts four or five yet.
“They’re written,” Weaver said. “We know what they are. They’re really good. But Jim is still finishing three. It’s nice to look forward to them.”
She added, “I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible journey. The world of Avatar is unlike anything else, and I can’t wait for fans to see what’s in store.”
Avatar 3, titled “Fire and Ash,” gets released on December 19, 2025. Avatar 4 is expected December 21, 2029. Avatar 5 is due out December 19, 2031.
