Sons of Anarchy’s Ryan Hurst Joins The Walking Dead

Though a lot of fans are upset with Carl, Rick and Lauren leaving or having left The Walking Dead, I think I am actually looking forward to the upcoming season more than I have any of the previous seasons since four or five.

Now it’s learned that fan-favorite Sons of Anarchy actor Ryan Hurst joins The Walking Dead Season 9 as a recurring guest star playing Beta, the second in command of the Whisperers, a new group from the comics that will be introduced in the upcoming season and who walk among the dead in suits made of human flesh.

It’s also been recently announced Fantastic Beasts’ Samantha Morton will play the Whisperers leader, Alpha, and Ozark’s Cassidy McClincy is playing her daughter, Lydia.

Details for The Walking Dead Season 9 include that it will be taking a back-to-basics approach feauring a time jump where supplies are low, and with Andrew Lincoln leaving, it’s reported Norman Reedus will be taking on the starring role.

“We’ll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down. Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low,” new showrunner Angela Kang said in a previous interview.

“There’s a fun Western vibe that has emerged,” Kang added. “We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers.”

The Walking Dead Season 9 premieres Sunday, October 7 on AMC.
