Ryan Gosling is rumored as Kevin Feige and Marvel’s choice to play Doctor Doom.
The rumor comes from a couple of different sources where the rumor could be a combination of fan casting and speculation so bear that in mind.
Back in July, Jeff Sneider who writes for the various trades appeared on The Hot Mic and talked about Marvel where Sneider said that he doesn’t believe Kang the Conqueror is the next big Marvel villain as he doesn’t believe Kang is a Thanos-level villain. So who is the next big villain for the MCU? Why, it’s Doctor Doom.
“Doctor Doom is obviously the next Thanos,” Sneider said. “They want to say it’s Kang but it’s not. I mean Kang is going to be like the min-boss. He’s not a Thanos-level foe nor do I think Jonathan Majors is a Thanos-level villain. So I think it’s all about Doctor Doom.”
Sneider continued by noting this is his theory.
“Do you want to hear my theory on who is going to be Doctor Doom?” asked Sneider who confirmed he trolled the fans with a tweet about Doctor Doom prior to Comic-Con. “Here is my theory. This is not news. I don’t want to impose this as news. I don’t want it aggregated as news. I think that your Doctor Doom has been skating around California in neon outfits.”
“Ryan Gosling will be Doctor Doom”
Of course, the “skating around California in neon outfits” reference is referencing that Ryan Gosling has been cast as Ken opposite Margot Robbie in the Barbie movie.
“The Gray Man is like another chapter in this dude’s career. Do you know what the chapter is? It’s the chapter that says ‘papa gotta get paid!’ That’s what it is. It’s Ryan Gosling who you can be assured has been approached by Marvel and DC in the past and has resisted all overtures,” said Sneider. Now he’s got kids. He’s doing Gray Man movies, universes.
Sneider continued, “So if he’s ready to do something like that, I can see him doing a superhero movie. Now we’re talking Marvel or DC. I think he would do Marvel for obvious reasons, and I don’t think Ryan Gosling loves being the hero. He has a darkness about him. We know this. I think they would be very lucky to have him. And I think that is my prediction, Ryan Gosling will be Doctor Doom.”
Doctor Doom could be next Thanos-level villain in Avengers: Secret Wars
Ryan Gosling recently touched upon Marvel rumors where he said he isn’t playing Nova, but said he would like to play Ghost Rider but maybe Gosling is already set to play Doctor Doom?
The Den of Nerds Twitter account also recently hinted that Ryan Gosling is playing Doctor Doom.
“If you don’t want Ryan Gosling as Doctor Doom, you should let Feige know ASAP…” says the tweet.
In the comics, Doctor Doom happens to be a big part of Secret Wars and at July’s Comic-Con, Feige revealed the Multiverse Saga which includes Avengers: Secret Wars getting released on November 7, 2025.
If Ryan Gosling is indeed Doctor Doom he’ll most certainly be featured in Avengers: Secret Wars, but other possibilities could include Avengers: The Kang Dynasty out May 2, 2025, or Fantastic Four on November 8, 2024, or even Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania out February 17, 2023, which is rumored to debut the FF.
