As expected, Amazon Prime Video’s massively expensive Rings Of Power series continues to lose power. Season 2 premiered with its first three episodes last week, showing a 50% drop in viewership compared to the Season 1 premiere.
Samba TV released the numbers for the Season 2 premiere, revealing that only 902k households tuned in. This figure is half of the 1.8 million households that watched the Season 1 premiere in 2022.
It’s also worth noting that the viewership for Season 2 is even lower, as Samba TV measured an additional day compared to the first season’s premiere.
The significant drop in viewership aligns with the massive loss from Season 1, where 63% of fans who started the series didn’t finish Rings of Power. Now, we see many of those same fans have chosen not to return for Season 2.
After the Season 1 premiere, Amazon Prime Video officially announced that the first two episodes of Rings of Power were watched by more than 25 million viewers on the first day, spanning 240 countries and territories worldwide. However, no similar announcement has been made about record ratings for Season 2.
The Rings of Power Rotten Tomatoes Score from fans also reflects their dissatisfaction, with the overall series currently at 49%. Season 1 holds a rating of 38%, while the first three episodes of Season 2 stand at 59%. Episode 4 airs tomorrow.
I thought the first episode of this season was pretty good, but the series quickly falls apart. The Sauron storyline is decent, but everything else about the show is really terrible. The storyline involving mankind, in particular, is especially bad.
The showrunners recently said they didn’t bother listening to the fans following Season 1, and it shows. Well, how’s that working out (seem to be asking that a lot lately)?
