Review: Justice League Dark #1 (Milligan & Janin)

[page_title]

After writing my article, Drawing the Line At Constantine, on why John Constantine would not work in a team book, I couldn't wait to trash the new Justice League Dark book. But now I stand in front of the world, proclaiming that Peter Milligan is a genius – and I apologize for ever doubting his skills!

First and foremost, this book will not be for everyone. It is the Vertigo line quite literally brought to life within the confines of the DCnU! Dark, twisted, disturbing and overwhelmingly amazing, the DCnU has become a darker, and frankly — a richer place for having this group of misfits in it. Constantine, Zatana, June Moone, Madame Xanadu and Shade have all converged together to stop a threat that even the most powerful of the DCnU could not. And believe me, it was quite nice to see the supes taken out of the picture when they couldn't find something to hit!

Cerebral, demented and wickedly refreshing, Milligan and Janin have torn a hole in the fabric of the DCnU and have left it scarred in the process. This is a book that will be permanently placed on my pull list! And thank you Mr. Milligan for proving that a b-stard like Constantine really does have a place in the new DCnU! You have proven this old Hellblazer fan wrong! Thanks!
