Rachel Zegler's Hunger Games Likely Next Box Office Bomb Following The Marvels

Following The Marvels, the Rachel Zegler The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes movie looks to be the next box office bomb.

According to estimates, the new Hunger Games will open at the box office as the lowest of the franchise with a similar opening to that of The Marvels, around $47 million.

Update: Thursday previews are at $5.75 million, less than The Marvels‘ $6.6M that opened to $46.1 million.

Update #2: Friday is estimated to be $18.5M-$20M; The Marvels first Friday brought in $21.6M; Box office weekend estimates are revised at $42M-$50M depending on how Saturday and Sunday perform.

Update #3: The CinemaScore is a “B+” also the lowest of the franchise.

Update #4: Friday box office is $19.1M, lower than The Marvels‘ $21.6M.

Update #5: Weekend box office is $44 million.

The four Hunger Games movies starring Jennifer Lawrence all opened over $100 million: $152.5M, $158M, $121.8M, and $102.6M.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes also currently has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes Score of the franchise as the flick is currently rated by the critics at a “Rotten” 59%.

The first film starring Jennifer Lawrence released in 2012 has an 84% score, Catching Fire in 2013 a 90% score, Mockingjay, Part 1 in 2014 a 70% score, and Part 2 in 2015 a 70% score.

With such a low box office the only thing The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes has going for it is it has a low budget of $100 million, while The Marvels is said to be well over $200 million. So Songbirds & Snakes doesn’t need to make as much money to at least break even but it will need decent legs.

Similar to Brie Larson and Amber Heard

Rachel Zegler also recently starred in DC’s Shazam: Fury of the Gods which bombed with only a $133.8 million worldwide gross.

She’s also lost the Paddington sequel, said to be due to the strike happening and a scheduling conflict.

That conflict looks to be reshoots for Disney’s Snow White which has been pushed back a year.

Similar to Brie Larson and Amber Heard, Rachel Zegler is fast coming off as another unlikeable actress due to the controversy surrounding her roles as well as her politics.

Zegler has caused lots of controversy surrounding her statements about Snow White. She’s said she didn’t like the original animated classic, she called Prince Charming a stalker, and said her Snow White will be completely different.

She even said her character in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is the first “young woman who was anti-establishment, anti-government, and really standing up for what’s right in a really unconventional way without an era of sweetness.” Zegler added, “There was nothing cordial about her either. She was very rough around the edges.”

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes opens tonight with Thursday previews.
