More Power Rangers Movies Confirmed

More Power Rangers are in the works.

Following last year’s lukewarm reception of the Power Rangers movie, it has been wondered if there will ever be a sequel or additional movies. The good news is that now it learned there will be more films thanks to Hasbro, who recently purchased the franchise from Saban.

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner mentioned more Power Rangers movies at the recent Hasbro Strategic Decisions Conference.

“As I mentioned, we’ve now announced the acquisition of Power Rangers,” Goldner said. “This is really a great statement about where we believe we are in developing our brand blueprint. The fact that we can acquire Power Rangers brand and plug and play that right into our strategy where we activate it in entertainment, motion pictures in the future and then of course across toys and games and consumer products and do so globally. We felt the brand was very under leveraged and undervalued. We feel we can exploit it to a much greater extent and it was a great opportunity to acquire the brand.”

In addition to the movies, Power Rangers is also has a huge television presence, which we can assume will continue as well.

Regarding the 2017 Power Rangers movie, it only made a measly $142,337,240 worldwide, with $85.3 million in the U.S. on a reported $100 million budget. The movie also got slammed by critics as it has a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 66% of fans stating they liked it.

Goldner also said the following in the announcement about Hasbro acquiring the brand from Saban:

“Power Rangers is an iconic brand built on a heritage of great storytelling and merchandising with tremendous upside potential when fully executed across Hasbro’s Brand Blueprint,” Goldner said. “Shortly after entering into our licensing arrangement, it became clear that now was the time to begin investing in unlocking Power Rangers’ full potential. We see significant opportunity for Power Rangers across our entire Brand Blueprint, including toys and games, consumer products, digital gaming and entertainment, as well as geographically throughout our global retail footprint. We couldn’t be more pleased that Haim Saban will continue in a consulting role to further guide our development of this valuable property for the next generation of Power Rangers fans.”
