‘Pop Culture Jeopardy!’ Moves From Amazon To Netflix For Season 2

Pop Culture Jeopardy! is switching streamers. The pop culture spinoff of the long-running game show is moving from Amazon to Netflix for Season 2, with Colin Jost in talks to return as host.

The Sony Pictures Television Game Show Division produces the series, which premiered on Amazon last December. Its shift to Netflix marks one of the rare times a major entertainment format has changed platforms.

Why The Move Happened

The move comes as Amazon rethinks its unscripted lineup. The company’s new global head of television, Peter Friedlander — a former Netflix executive — is reportedly putting his own stamp on programming. Meanwhile, several Amazon unscripted executives, including Jenny Falkoff and Alysia Russo, have recently joined Netflix.

Amazon’s previous “Winning Wednesdays” game show block, which featured Travis Kelce’s Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?, JB Smoove’s Buy It Now, and Wish List Games, is currently in limbo. Kelce’s busy schedule with the Kansas City Chiefs and his upcoming wedding to Taylor Swift also makes his return uncertain.

What To Expect From Season 2

The Netflix edition of Pop Culture Jeopardy! will keep the same team-based format that pits three-player teams against each other in tournament-style knockout rounds. Contestants will answer questions across entertainment-focused categories like “Horror Made Wholesome,” “Bummer Movie Endings,” and “The Avengers.”

The show’s first season was known for embracing the absurd side of pop culture, from 1990s sitcoms and Taylor Swift Easter eggs to internet memes and celebrity trivia.

Suzanne Prete, president of game shows at Sony Pictures Television, praised the move.

Pop Culture Jeopardy! captivated an audience with its fun and energetic game play, building on the beloved franchise and offering fans an opportunity to test their zeitgeist knowledge,” she said. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be partnering with the exemplary team at Netflix, to bring more episodes to our passionate and loyal viewers.”

Colin Jost Expected To Return

Colin Jost, who hosted Season 1, is currently in talks to return for Season 2. His comedic timing and pop culture savvy were widely credited for helping the spinoff connect with a younger audience.
