Parmount Yanks Terminator: Genisys Sequel From Release Schedule

Disney & Jared Leto's 'Tron: Ares' Bombs At Box Office: Covid Blamed

Paramount has removed the planned sequel to Terminator: Genisys from its release schedule, which originally had a May 19, 2017 release date.

The Baywatch remake starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron has now taken Terminator‘s place.

Paramount didn’t offer any explanation as to why Terminator was removed.

A Terminator universe was being planned, but then said to be shelved indefinitely, only for the producers to state Terminator will be back; however, this latest news doesn’t bode well for a Teminator universe as the rights are due to revert back to James Cameron in 2019. Cameron stated he wasn’t interested in Terminator and moved on to Avatar.

Terminator: Genisys did do well internationally at the box office ($350 million), but only did around $90 million in the U.S.
