Neil Patrick Harris joins the cast of Doctor Who Season 14 in a villain role.
Showrunner Russell T Davies confirmed the casting noting for the Doctor to “beware.”
“It’s my huge honor to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we’re shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!” said Davies.
It’s also announced Harris is currently filming scenes set to air in 2023 as part of the show’s 60th anniversary.
A first look at the actor in the series has been revealed (see below), and Harris teased his villain role on Instagram, “My current gig. Never looked more dashing. Thank you for inviting me into your Whoniverse, @russelltdavies63. I’ll try my hardest to do my worst. This Doctor has no idea what’s in store. And even if he does… Who cares? Ha ha ha HA ha-ha-ha! @bbcdoctorwho.”
Davies also confirmed the villain role on Instagram noting, “Neil Patrick Harris, welcome to Cardiff! Playing the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced. Such a great actor, such a great man, it’s an honour and a hoot. Have fun! @nph @bbcdoctorwho Ha”
Neil Patrick Harris is known for a plethora of roles including How I Met Your Mother, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and recently The Matrix Resurrections.
The BBC also recently announced that Ncuti Gatwa will be the new Doctor, Yasmin Finney will play Rose, and Doctor Who Season 14 also sees the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate.
Some fans are guessing the new Season under Davies will be something like a Doctor Who Multiverse due to various characters returning and other characters seemingly being played by different actors.
“Life on Doctor Who gets brighter and wilder, how can there be another Rose?” teased Davies in the announcement about Yasmin Finney. “You’ll find out in 2023, but it’s an absolute joy to welcome Yasmin to the Doctor Who set. We all fell in love with her in Heartstopper, one of those shows which changes the world – and now Yasmin can change the Whoniverse!”
