Mortal Kombat Mobile Celebrates 11 Years With MK II Movie Shao Kahn Update

Mortal Kombat Mobile Celebrates 11 Years With MK II Movie Shao Kahn Update

Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios are rolling out a new Mortal Kombat Mobile update tied to the game’s 11th anniversary and the upcoming Mortal Kombat II movie.

The update goes live starting April 1 and adds Diamond Klassic Baraka, early access to Diamond MK II Movie Shao Kahn, returning Klassic content, and daily free rewards for players. The content also helps promote Mortal Kombat II, which opens in theaters May 8 from Warner Bros. Pictures.

Diamond Klassic Baraka joins the roster

One of the headline additions is Diamond Klassic Baraka, inspired by his look from the 1993 Mortal Kombat II video game.

According to Warner Bros., Baraka comes with his signature teeth and arm blades, and players can build his Anger Meter to activate his passive skill, Tarkat Bonehide. That ability protects against incoming damage and reflects it back at opponents.

Diamond Klassic Baraka will be available through the new 11th Anniversary Kombat Pass Season, which runs from April 1 through May 7.

MK II Movie Shao Kahn gets early access

The update also brings early access to Diamond MK II Movie Shao Kahn, based on his appearance in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II film.

Warner Bros. says Shao Kahn has the highest base Attack stat in the game and is built as a heavy damage dealer. He can boost teammate toughness, land krushing hits, reduce incoming enemy damage, and switch between two fighting stances using either his axe or bare hands.

Shao Kahn follows MK II Movie Kitana as the second character from the new movie to be added to the Mortal Kombat Mobile roster.

Players can unlock early access to Shao Kahn before his official May 8 release by completing the 11th Anniversary Kombat Pass with Premium+ purchased. He can also be earned by finishing in the top three of the Realm Klash PVP competition.

Klassic Tower and characters return

The anniversary update leans hard into the franchise’s retro roots.

The Klassic Tower Event is returning, along with Klassic Challenge events. Players can earn nostalgic gear including Treasured Freebie and Rockin’ Token, while the first back-to-back Klassic Challenge begins April 1 with Klassic Noob Saibot.

Warner Bros. also confirmed that Klassic characters will return to the Krypt store for a limited time. Players can spend Krypt Hearts to unlock Diamond and Gold versions of select fighters including Klassic Liu Kang, Klassic Jax, and Klassic Skarlet.

On top of that, several fan-favorite fighters will be eligible for Ascension upgrades, including Klassic Scorpion, Klassic Sub-Zero, Klassic Mileena, and Klassic Sonya Blade.

New Friendship and Brutality added

The update also introduces two new finishers tied to the new characters.

Players can collect the Horde Chef’s Set to trigger Baraka’s Friendship, described as a Tarkatan bake-off.

A new Draconic Equipment set also unlocks a new Shao Kahn Brutality Attack to finish opponents.

Free characters and daily rewards start April 1

Players who log in each day during the anniversary event from April 1 through April 11 will receive 11 random klassic characters for free.

The game will also hand out 15 Dragon Krystals daily through the in-game inbox during the celebration period.

Mortal Kombat Mobile ties into Mortal Kombat II movie release

The update arrives just ahead of the Mortal Kombat II movie hitting theaters on May 8, giving Warner Bros. another way to connect the mobile game with the new film.

With Klassic content returning and movie-inspired fighters joining the roster, this anniversary update is mixing old-school Mortal Kombat nostalgia with the latest push for the sequel.
