The live-action Moana trailer is out, giving your first look at Dwayne Johnson back as Maui and newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana. Disney drops the teaser with the reminder that Moana hits theaters on July 10, 2026.

Cast and Characters
Alongside Lagaʻaia and Johnson, the film features:
- John Tui as Chief Tui, Moana’s straightforward and steady father
- Frankie Adams as Sina, Moana’s playful and strong-willed mother
- Rena Owen as Gramma Tala
The cast sticks close to the spirit of the animated version while giving each character a grounded live-action presence.

Behind the Camera
Moana is directed by Emmy and Tony winner Thomas Kail, known for Hamilton. Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda produce, with Miranda returning after writing songs for the original film. Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth and Cravalho all serve as executive producers.
Disney is aiming for an immersive theatrical experience, highlighting the film’s visuals, Polynesian culture and the familiar music that helped the original become a global hit.
