Melissa McCarthy Starring In DC Vertigo Movie “The Kitchen”

A new DC movie is announced with The Kitchen, which is set to star Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish.

Deadline reports Andrea Berloff will be directing The Kitchen, which is based on the DC Comics Vertigo comic book of the same name.

New Line Cinema and DC Entertainment are making the film, with the screenplay also being written by Berloff who wrote Straight Outta Compton.

The Kitchen is an Irish mafia story set in Hell’s Kitchen, New York in the 1970s. An FBI sweep catches mob leaders, and while they are under arrest and their criminal enterprise is jeopardized, the mob wives take over. They end up running the illicit business in more vicious fashion than their husbands ever did.

Michael De Luca is producing The Kitchen who is a new producer on board the DC movies; De Luca is also producing Suicide Squad 2.

The Kitchen comic book is described as “Goodfella meets Mob Wives,” by DC Comics editor Will Dennis. “Set in the 1970s, it follows a group of women who take over the Irish Mob running Hell’s Kitchen when their husbands are sent to prison. They […] get a real taste for the money and the lifestyle and all this stuff and then it becomes this conflict when their husbands get out of jail: Are they going to give up all this racket they’ve taken over, or aren’t they?”

The Kitchen comic is written by Ollie Masters, with art by Ming Doyle and Jordie Bellaire, and the cover art is by Becky Cloonan.
