Ben Affleck recently stepped down from directing the upcoming solo Batman movie, with it then reported WB was courting Matt Reeves, who is directing War for the Planet of the Apes for Fox Studios.

Deadline is now reporting WB has put out an offer to Matt Reeves to direct Batman, and that the wait is on to see if Reeves will accept the gig.

In addition to War for the Planet of the Apes, Matt Reeves also directed Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield and the vampire movie Let Me In

The report notes with the release of this Summer's War for the Planet of the Apes, Matt Reeves will quickly shoot up to A-list status, so WB nabbing him now only makes sense.

I recently saw Matt Reeves at the NYCC War for the Planet of the Apes footage reveal, and my impressions of the director were overwelmingly positive. He's serious about the material, he loves the work, he respects the fans, and he is a fan himself. Matt Reeves should make a good Batman director. You can check out NYCC footage below.

Regarding Ben Afleck's departure from Batman, Affleck previously released the following statement:

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
