Sunday night at the Golden Globes, Matt Reeves addressed the possibility of Robert Pattinson playing Batman in James Gunn’s DCU.
It’s been claimed Gunn wants Pattinson as the DCU Dark Knight, something Gunn has confirmed there have been discussions about, but presently, the two are considered separate universes.
What did Matt Reeves say?
Josh Horowitz caught up with Reeves and asked about Batman in the DCU (watch below), as Horowitz recently talked with Gunn about it. Reeves responded:
“It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense. What’s been great is there was a story that I wanted to tell that we’re calling The Epic Crime Saga which is the thrust of what we wanted to do. It’s been important to me to be able to play that out. James and Peter have been really, really great about that and they’re letting us do that.”
Reeves continued:
“What the future brings, I can’t really tell you. I have no idea right now except that my head is down now about getting The Batman Part II shooting and to make it something really, really special which is, of course, the most important thing.”
Horowitz pressed Reeves about it and asked what if Gunn decides they really want Robert Pattinson as the DCU Batman. Reeves offered in response:
“I don’t know. We’ll have to see where that goes.”

How will it work out?
Rumors have claimed that if Robert Pattinson joins the DCU that Matt Reeves wants creative control over Batman and the related characters. Assuming that’s true, it makes sense for Reeves to be in charge of Batman, as obviously his style of realism and seriousness is the complete opposite of Gunn’s approach to comic book characters. The two would need to work together to make it work.
Recently also saw the news that the DCU Brave and the Bold movie has been postponed as director Andy Muschietti revealed he’s working on a different movie. If Pattinson joins the DCU, Brave and the Bold will likely be canceled and Andy Muschietti won’t be directing.
Reeves’ The Batman: Part II also saw a big delay of a year as the flick has been pushed back to an Oct. 1, 2027 release date.
