Marvel’s Inhumans just can’t catch a break!
Following the bad promo art, the bad trailer and bad reviews, now it’s said Marvel’s Inhumans was done fast and it was done cheap!
Which probably explains a lot!
Roel Reiné actually offers up he was brought on board Marvel’s Inhumans because he is good at making low-budget productions:
“I think they liked me for the job because I was able with my action movies to shoot in a very short time, or with very low budgets, action that looks like a big-budget movie,” he said. “It was not a feature film, it was a TV episode, but they still wanted to have the scope.”
Reine actually laughs about it:
“The schedule was super-tight,” Reiné laughed. “I had TV schedule time to shoot it with Imax cameras, 20 days to shoot two episodes. It’s nerve-wracking but I come from a low-budget film world, so 20 days for me is luxury.”
While the article insinuates that Marvel’s Inhumans is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the truth is the series actually comes from Marvel TV–who has nothing to do with Kevin Feige or Marvel Studios as the two companies are completely separate at Disney and don’t even get along.
Inhumans was originally supposed to be an MCU movie when Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter and his Marvel Comics Creative Committee were involved with Marvel Studios, but Kevin Feige had them removed from the MCU due to the problems and interference, so Inhumans became a Marvel TV production. The Marvel Comics Creative Committee includes Marvel TV.
I had high hopes for Marvel’s Inhumans, and I still do, but this all seems like a repeat of what Marvel TV did with Iron Fist: same showrunner and they did a rush job, which ended in a big mess.
Marvel’s Inhumans debuts September 1st in IMAX theaters and then premiers on ABC Friday, September 29th from 8-10pm ET.
Marvel’s Inhumans explores the never-before-told epic adventure of the royal family including Black Bolt, the enigmatic, commanding King of the Inhumans, with a voice so powerful that the slightest whisper can destroy a city. After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself. The legendary comic book series will be brought to life in a way that has never been done before, as a version of the first two episodes will be shown globally in IMAX theaters for a two-week period beginning September 1, 2017. ABC will then air the entirety of the series on the network, with additional exclusive content that can only been seen on ABC.
Marvel’s Inhumans stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Serinda Swan as Medusa, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Ken Leung as Karnak, Ellen Woglom as an undisclosed character, Sonya Balmores as Auran and Mike Moh as Triton.
The series is executive produced by Scott Buck, along with Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory with Buck serving as showrunner. Roel Reiné will direct the first two episodes. This series is a Marvel and IMAX project and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.
