The first reactions for Marvel’s Echo series coming to the Disney+ streaming service are in as episodes have been made available for review.
The series is set to debut in January and rumors have offered Kevin Feige deemed it unwatchable, which is why it’s the first Marvel show to get all of its episodes released all at once on Disney+.
It has also been confirmed that while they shot six episodes, they cut down Echo to only five episodes for the official release, so perhaps, similar to Deadpool: Born Again, Marvel retooled Echo in an attempt to fix things.
It also happens to be Marvel’s first mature-rated series, and Echo is actually my favorite character and thing to come out of the Hawkeye series, so hopefully it is good.
What do the reactions say?
Regarding what the reactions have to say, the good news is that Echo is said to be really violent to fit with that mature rating.
However, at the same time, it seems the story might be lacking. It’s also compared to Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix, but the creative decisions are said to be questionable. The showrunner recently said the character’s powers from the comics are lame and that representation matters, so we’ll have to see how it plays out. Can’t be any worse than what is already on Disney+ from Marvel.
Check out the full reactions below.
Echo stars Alaqua Cox, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, Graham Greene, and Zahn McClarnon. The series is about the origin story of Echo who revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots, and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
Marvel also recently announced Echo is now separate from the MCU, a part of the Marvel Spotlight brand.
All five episodes of Echo will stream on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024.
Echo reactions:
Enjoyed the first two episodes of #ECHO which had an incredible (and violent) fight scene I want to watch again and again. The sound design is 🔥

The brilliant Alaqua Cox continually draws me in, but I found the storytelling and pacing shaky.
Excited to see the rest! pic.twitter.com/tTuSo3L04s
If the world ending stakes of the MCU have you longing for something more grounded #Echo is the gritty tonic. Two episodes seen and it’s a hard hitting action thriller with a great sense of Native American culture. Cant wait to see the final three when they drop in Jan. pic.twitter.com/1dS9wjHTNj

Saw the first two episodes of #echo tonight and have a lot of thoughts. I think fans of Netflix’s Daredevil are going to love it. It’s like Marvel remembered it can be violent and dark. Alaqua Cox is amazing! Although I don’t love all the creative decisions though pic.twitter.com/qvujfoAKiT

I've seen 3 eps of #Echo | A grounded, character driven story with hints of bigger things to come. The strong focus on Maya's indigenous heritage & personal history intrigues me; and while some quiet moments slow the pacing; when the action scenes come, they are indeed brutal. pic.twitter.com/yCrcIdV82l
