You can’t make this up as now Marvel Comics has killed Moon Knight and replaced him with a black female apparent lesbian who also happened to be Marc Spector’s receptionist.
The pages and ending to next week’s Moon Knight #30 have leaked online. To catch you up to speed, Moon Knight and his team have been attempting to stop the Black Spectre and Zodiac from unleashing a weapon upon NYC that will make the people insane.
Issue #29 sees Moon Knight stopping the Black Spectre but then the real big bad is revealed, Robert Plesko. The end of that issue shows Plesko shooting Moon Knight who has already been beaten down in previous fights.
Moon Knight is dead
So with Moon Knight #30, the leaked pages reveal that Moon Knight has indeed died.
His companions/friends confirm the death and say how much it “hurts” that he is no longer around to help them.
“His work is our work now and our work never ends,” they say.
The last page reveals Moon Knight’s friends as part of the team and will continue as the Midnight Mission.
“Welcome to the Midnight Mission. My name’s Reese. How can we help?” says the vampire character who is dressed as Moon Knight.
Who is Reese?
Reese is a citizen of Manhattan who was turned into a vampire. Marc Spector saves her where she began to work at Moon Knight’s congregation, the Midnight Mission, as a receptionist. The character debuted in Moon Knight (Vol. 9) #1 (July, 2021).
Ethan Van Sciver reacts
The leak first surfaced on the Ethan Van Sciver YouTube channel (via Yellow Flash Guy).
“Hey, Ethan! I emailed you pages to next week’s Moon Knight when Marc Spector is killed. The final page reveals the new Moon Knight. Yes, it’s real,” said Drew with Comics Elite.
“Oh, no!” Van Sciver laughed. “The new Moon Knight, ladies and gentlemen! Woah! The new Moon Knight is a black lesbian! Hooray!”
Relaunch underway
Worth a note is that it’s unclear if Reese is specifically the new Moon Knight as Marvel Comics has already announced a relaunch is in the works at the start of the year with Vengeance of the Moon Knight #1 but again, Reese is wearing the white suit and has the crescent pendant.
Marvel Comics first announced they were killing off Moon Knight in September and relaunching with Vengeance of the Moon Knight in January:
When the dust settles, a new avatar of Khonshu’s wrath will awaken! Complete with a new look and an unquenchable thirst for battle, this mysterious new Moon Knight emerges to take Marc’s place in VENGEANCE OF THE MOON KNIGHT—a deadlier Lunar Legionnaire for the dark times ahead!
Clad in the black of mourning, the Midnight Mission remains! But who is left to keep the faith? And how have they been changed by the Black Spectre’s master stroke? The next chapter of MOON KNIGHT starts here as the congregants of the Midnight Mission pick up the pieces and carry on the mission… and find themselves faced with a mysterious new enemy in eerily familiar vestments.
