Confirming just what my Hollywood insiders told me, the Margot Robbie Barbie movie has great legs and has now reached the magic billion-dollar number at the box office.
For the third weekend in a row, Barbie took the top spot with another $53 million and now has a domestic haul of $459 million.
Add to that another $572 million and the Barbie movie now has a box office of over a billion dollars: $1,031,481,000.
It’s also the first movie from a female director, Greta Gerwig, to hit the mark (Captain Marvel doesn’t count because it was directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck), and Barbie is the fastest Warner Bros. film to make a billion, in only 17 days, faster than Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow Part 2’s 19 days and the Nolan Batman Dark Knight movies.

The Meg 2 eats up the Turtles
The Meg 2 starring Jason Statham also did better than expected as it comes in second with $30 million ($142M worldwide), and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is still trucking along bringing in $28.7 million for a current worldwide total of $553 million.
The new TMNT fails to meet expectations, as originally it was thought to bring in over $30 million, but we see The Meg 2 ate it up, as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem only brought in $28 million for its opening weekend ($51M worldwide).
Disney’s Haunted Mansion is another disaster and only brought in $9 million in week two, a decline of over 62%, and its worldwide box office is less than $60 million.
