Manu Bennett, known for playing Deathstroke in Arrow, has been cast in MTV’s upcoming Shannara TV series as the druid Allanon described by THR “as a wise, perceptive and serious man who knows something incredibly important has begun when the wise tree Ellcrys starts to die.”

Bennett joins Austin Butler, who was announced earlier to play Wil Ohmsford, a half-elf half human that Allanon recruits to save the four lands. Poppy Drayton has also been cast as the Elven Princess, Amberle Elessedil.

Shannara is based on the best-selling Terry Brooks fantasy novels of the same name. The first season on MTV is based on the second book, The Elfstones Of Shannara.

I’ve read a bunch of these, and I must say Manu Bennett is an interesting choice to play Allanon. If you are familiar with the series, Allanon is a tall, intimidating and powerful character. With Bennett on board we are probably going to see a lot of action as Allanon battles a lot of demons and things of that nature in The Elfstones novel. Good choice.

Shannara is set for ten episodes written by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar; Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ Jonathan Liebesman is directing the first two episodes. Jon Favreau is on board as a producer.
