The world continues mourning Stan Lee, who died on Monday at the age of 95 years old, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige remembering “The Man” who was in part responsible for the launch of the MCU.

Kevin Feige spoke with THR about his first time meeting Stan Lee, which was on the set of the first X-Men movie back in 2000, with Lee giving him the nickname “Fearless Feige.”

“The light on the phone was blinking and I checked the message,” Feige recalled. “‘Fearless, Feige!’ he said. “‘Fearless Feige, this is Stan Lee.’ It was just a voicemail, he just needed something. But I was, ‘I think Stan Lee gave me a nickname.’ It was amazing.” And as noted, it was a message Feige kept for years afterwards.

Kevin Feige also offered that he thought Stan Lee would live forever, and when asked about any future cameos for Stan Lee (it’s thought Lee filmed at least three more cameos, possibly for Captain Marvel, The Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home),  remained mum, but offered:

“One of the many things I learned from Stan was that everyone likes a surprise,” Feige said. “We’ll think about an appropriate way [to honor him], but even in the 18 years I’ve been at Marvel, the appropriate way is to do justice to the amazing characters and stories that he created. And we’ll continue to do that.”

Kevin Feige also released the following statement following Stan Lee’s death:

“No one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee. Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all. Our thoughts are with his daughter, his family, and the millions of fans who have been forever touched by Stan’s genius, charisma and heart. Excelsior!”
