It’s revealed the upcoming Moon Knight series will not be attached to the MCU in any way, shape or form, as confirmed by a Marvel Studios producer.

In a press release sent out by Disney Plus, executive producer Grant Curtis talked about the show revealing the surprising details (bold my own):

There’s no attachment to the current MCU. He’s brand-new, and he is going on a brand-new adventure. We really think the fans are going to enjoy it. There are multiple aspects of Moon Knight that get us internally jazzed at Marvel Studios. But one of the unique aspects of this character is it’s taking Marvel Studios to its Iron Man and Tony Stark roots. That was a character that was obviously built from the ground up, and it is the same with Marc Spector. We’re absolutely embracing the supernatural aspects of what was in publishing, the Egyptian gods, this ruthless Egyptian god Khonshu that manipulates Marc to do his bidding. We’re embracing all that. We love stuff that goes bump in the night.”

Moon Knight will not feature any MCU Easter Eggs, nods, or surprise cameos

So that must mean Moon Knight will not feature any Easter Eggs, nods, or surprise cameos from anything related to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is most certainly a disappointment for Kevin Feige’s zombie fanbase.

What is interesting is that Feige previously revealed Moon Knight is on the really serious side of things as it is “brutal” — in what sounds like the series is Marvel’s first mature project, but now it is learned that Moon Knight really isn’t even a part of the MCU. Ouch.

However, maybe that is a good thing as Feige’s MCU is on the goofier side of things, and now we see with Feige going with something more serious – which is an obvious answer to DC’s The Batman – that it can’t be a part of the MCU.

You know what? I’ll take it. No “Dance off, bro” moment, no Fat Thor, no goofy Hulk, no man-hater Captain MarvelMoon Knight already sounds like a win.

Just imagine what Feige is going to do with Daredevil.

Moon Knight becomes exclusively available on Disney Plus on March 30 starring Oscar Isaac. The series is directed by Mohamed Diab and also stars Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy, and follows Steven Grant (Isaac), a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
