Justice League Is Not The Avengers Says Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck Justice League Joss Whedon

With Joss Whedon having come on board to finish filming and writing on the Justice League movie, it may have been thought that Joss Whedon is turning Justice League into something similar to Marvel’s The Avengers, which Whedon directed and went on to make over $1.5 billion at the box office.

The latest issue of Empire Magazine has a featured article on Justice League, with Ben Affleck noting Justice League is not Avengers and comment on Joss Whedon (via CBM).

“I didn’t sense that we were moving towards something that felt like The Avengers. Joss is more than just an Avengers director. He’s a good storyteller, full stop. In mid-stream, Joss got on and part of what interested him was the puzzle aspect of it, fitting in pieces that weren’t there yet. He put the rest of the pieces in and gave it his own imprimatur. Joss came in and walked a very fine line between Zack’s sensibility, tone, and direction. We found a really fun and inspiring synthesis of their two forms of storytelling. I was so glad everyone showed up to work for Zack.”

I have to say I’m happy that Ben Affleck says Joss Whedon is keeping with the tone of Zack Snyder’s films, which has been on the more serious side compared to the Marvel “popcorn” flicks.

Justice League has a November 17, 2017 release directed by Zack Snyder, with the story by Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder, the screenplay by Chris Terrio and Joss Whedon, and stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe an Atlantean, Nuidis Vulko.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
