John Krasinski Reveals Captain America Chris Evans Reaction

Back when Marvel Studios was first looking at actors to play their Captain America, The Office actor John Krasinski was up for the role; however, we all know that eventually Chris Evans landed the role of Cap, and the rest they say is history.

Now while promoting Amazon’s Jack Ryan series, John Krasinski reveals his reaction to Marvel Studios passing on him for the role and learning that Chris Evans had been cast as Captain America–on his wife Emily Blunt’s birthday.

“My agent called and said, ‘They’re going to go with Chris Evans,’” Krasinksi said, which was eight years ago (via Variety). “And I remember I said, ‘Yeah, look at him. He’s Captain America.’”

He said his wife offered to cancel their evening plans, but he said it was okay: “I said, ‘It’s Chris Evans. Of course we’re going to dinner.’”

While John Krasinski didn’t get the role of Captain America, he may still have a shot in the MCU, at least according to the fans as they have cast him as their choice for Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic, of the Fantastic Four. Disney is getting the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters back from Fox Studios, with the shareholder vote happening this Friday.

“Oh yeah, the Fantastic Four. I would love that!” John Krasinksi said back in April while promoting his hit movie A Quiet Place. “I mean listen, I’m still getting into the whole superhero thing. I didn’t read comics as a kid, not as many, I read some but not as much, but I’m a huge superhero fan so yeah, I’d love to do something like that. If they’re are any left, a lot of these have been taken but the ones that are left, yeah, I would love to do something like that. And listen, I’d love to work with her again so any chance I got would be great.”
