It’s claimed that Marvel is going to recast the role of Kang in the MCU and that John David Washington is a contender for the role.
Disney and Marvel recently fired Jonathan Majors from the Kang role who was supposed to star in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty prior to the release of the big Avengers: Secret Wars movie.
So with Majors out, it’s thought either Marvel is going to ditch and move away from the Kang story altogether, which seemed to conclude with Quantumania and Loki Season 2, or move forward with a new actor in the role which is suggested by the rumor via Daniel RPK.
Avengers: Kang Dynasty still happening?
While all the Kangs so far have looked like Jonathan Majors, obviously it’s the multiverse we are talking about here, so Kang could really look like anyone.
What will be interesting is whether or not any actor actually wants to take on the role of Kang, which could be looked at as coming with a lot of baggage; however, of course, the Marvel money would likely make an actor accept that supervillain paycheck pronto.
John David Washington is the son of Denzel Washington and recently starred in Garth Edwards’ sci-fi movie, The Creator (decent movie, great visuals). John David Washington also starred in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet which is getting a re-release, and is known for the Dwayne Johnson HBO football series, Ballers.
There have been rumors that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is canceled or even that the title will be changed as it’s said to presently be referred to as “Avengers 5,” but it’s still on the release date schedule for May 1, 2026.
It’s also said to have lost writer Michael Waldron. IMDb lists rumored roles for the flick with Jeremy Renner back as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Tenoch Huerta back as Namor who has also been in the hot water after being accused of sexual misconduct.
There is actually fan art of Denzel Washington as Kang. Check it out:
