James Wan has taken to Instagram to offer a look at a possible Aquaman filming location.
Assuming it’s not for Conjuring 3, James Wan posted an image of a boat harbor adding, “If casting is half of your directing, then location is half your photography.”
The boat harbor in question looks to be located in Australia as Aquaman is said to be currently in pre-production.
Update: A reader sent in info that the location is actually Petty Harbor in Newfoundland where Jason Momoa films his Netflix series, Frontier.
If you think the location looks rather creepy, you are probably not too far off as James Wan previous said he is bringing a horror element to Aquaman.
“F-ckin’ Aquaman, what can I say,” James Wan said at the San Diego Comic-Con this past Summer.”He’s never been portrayed in the feature movie world before. The opportunity to explore this universe and bring a bit of my horror element to this, the deep sea, the scary world, and of course the wondrous world of Atlantis.”
WonderCon also saw James Wan mention sea monsters for Aquaman.
“I think, like most people, we are familiar with Aquaman,” Wan said. “We grew up reading or watching this character on the peripheral. I was never so in depth with Aquaman as, let’s say, I was with X-Men. I grew up loving X-Men, Spider-Man and Batman. Those are obviously the key big ones, but there’s always something kind of cool about Aquaman still, the idea of creating a huge world that is on our planet. That’s the thing about Aquaman that’s cool is he’s not an alien, right? He’s from our planet and he’s from a society that we’re not privy to in the context of the story. Isn’t it crazy to think that we’ve explored space more than we have explored the depths of our ocean? That just fires up my imagination about potential sea monsters and cool creatures, that kind of stuff.”
“Aquaman” has a July 27, 2018 release starring Jason Momoa as the titular character, Amber Heard as Mera, and Willem Dafoe recently revealed new details about his character, Nuidis Vulko.
