James Gunn Laughs At Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Certain to tick off the Snyder Cultists, James Gunn laughs at using the Zack Snyder Justice League characters in Peacemaker Season 1.

The cameo features Ezra Miller as The Flash, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and Henry Cavill’s Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman in silhouette form.

Since James Gunn is rebooting DC and bringing John Cena and Peacemaker with him (in addition to his brother Sean Gunn, Viola Davis, and Xolo Maridueña, and possibly Momoa as a new character), how is it all going to make sense?

Gunn explains DCU canon

Responding to be asking what is canon and what is not canon in the DCU, Gunn can’t help but laugh that the Justice League scene won’t be canon.

“Real simply, nothing for sure is canon unless you see it in Creature Commandos forward for the DCU,” explained Gunn to IGN. “Now, in Creature Commandos, you will hear them talk about things that happened in Suicide Squad or Peacemaker, well then those things automatically become canon.”

Gunn continued, “The truth is, almost all of Peacemaker is canon, except [coughs and laughs] Justice League — which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker.”

Gunn added about DCU canon, “But to be totally sure, everything that is purely canon is Creature Commandos through Superman through Lanterns, Supergirl, and Peacemaker Season 2.

Update: Also in an interview with Collider, Gunn laughed at Justice League:

Gunn joked about what the title of Peacemaker’s second season would be, also pointing to a moment that will be erased from canon. When Weintraub asked if Peacemaker Season 2 would have a subtitle, like The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol, Gunn laughly responded: “I think Peacemaker Season 2, asterisk, no Justice League happened in Peacemaker Season 1. [Laughs]”

When asked if canon even matters anymore, Gunn replied with a laugh, “Well you know one of the weird things to me is none of this is real. It may be alarming to people but none of it is real, it’s all just stories we’re telling about characters, and hopefully, there’s authenticity and truth to those stories because we care about those stories, the characters, the actors, the performers, the animators. They all care about these stories but it’s not real.”

Gunn continued, “So what’s canon can really be whatever you want to be canon. If you want to pretend that Greedo and Batman go on adventures together, you can pretend Greedo and Batman go on adventures together.”

Creature Commandos gets released on December 5 on Max.
