Jack Black Wants To Play Penguin In The Batman

An interview surfaces from way back in September of 2018 with it mentioned that the Penguin might be a villain in The Batman, with it suggested that Jack Black should play the role.

ET Canada caught up with Jack Black while promoting The House with a Clock in Its Wall and asked the actor if he would be interested in playing Penguin.

“Is there talk of me as the Penguin,” Jack Black questioned as his eyes lit up with the possibility. “Yeah. That would be a role. That would be fun.”

So he would be into it?

“I hate to put myself out there and say that, because when I don’t get that part, it looks, ‘Oh, Jack tried to get the thing.’ I didn’t try anything. Just saying maybe that would be good,” Black said.

While Penguin has yet to be confirmed for The Batman, director Matt Reeves did confirm the movie will feature a Rogues Gallery of villains.

“There will be a Rogues Gallery. The casting process will begin shortly. We’re starting to put together our battle plan. I’m doing another pass on the script and we’ll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things,” Reeves said. “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”

The Batman has a June 25, 2021 release date.
