Russos Considered No Infinity War Post-Credit Scene

My first time watching The Avengers: Infinity War, I thought to myself while watching the credits that the movie didn’t need to have a post-credit scene, but I was pleasantly surprised by what I did see.

Spoilers follow.

While participating in a Q&A at an Iowa City high school, The Avengers: Infinity War directors were asked about the post-credit scene and Captain Marvel.

Regarding why they included that specific Infinity War post-credit scene, which featured Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill driving through NYC following Thanos having snapped his fingers and turning to dust, the Russos explained:

“Because we wanted you to be in pain until the very end,” they informed the students. “If we gave you a credit scene right after the end–frankly we considered not putting any credit scene.”

Following Nick Fury and Maria Hill ceasing to exist, the Infinity War post-credit scene revealed that Nick Fury signaled Captain Marvel, which saw the Russos remain coy about, as well a Ant-Man in Avengers 4.

“Well she has her own film prior to the Avengers 4; so Ant Man and Captain Marvel I can’t say that
It’s spoilery. I can’t say how much or if she’s involved. That’s spoilery,” the Russo’s said.

What is known about the Captain Marvel movie is that it takes place in the 1990s – prior to the events in Infinity War – so it remains to be seen how she makes her way to the present day. Samuel L. Jackson returns for the Captain Marvel movie as well which sees them battling the shapeshifting alien race known as the Skrulls.

It also remains to be seen just how Ant-Man and the Wasp manage their way into Avengers 4.

Ant-Man and Wasp gets released July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel gets released March 8, 2019; The Avengers 4 has a May 3, 2019 release.
